removing calliper paint

Put 2 coats on yesterday. First coat looked awful, second much improved. But halfords calliper paint has a viscosity which is too thick, sticky, and dries too fast making it hard to apply.

Im going to spray the callipers instead. Do I need to remove the first painted on two coats (only one calliper has been painted so far) or can I just spray on top?

If I do need to remove, whats the best stuff to use?

I would remove the paint of the one caliper you've done as would produce a different finish on each one.
Try this....but wear gloves!!!

Cheers mate How is it applied? The callipers have indentations, corners, curves etc, its not easy to get at all angles and sides easily.

Is the calliper off the car ? Using Nitromors is real messy and not something I would use while the part is on the car. It's not easy to remove and strips paint in no time. If you get any little flicks on your cars bodywork , you'd better be very quick removing it and simply splashing water on it is not good enough. The Nitromors doesn't mix with water and will stick to the paint and eat it in not time . The same also for your skin !
I've painted the calipers on my car while in situ and to be honest , they ony looked good for less than a year. The only long lasting way is to have them blasted and powder coated. If you go that route , make sure you dont blast the piston bore and that no bead gets into the caliper.

I'd try bead-blasting them.

But then, I do have bead-blasting facilities...

Did you do the painting with the calipers in place? Or did you unmount them from the hub etc.

Just wondered as I have mine to do shortly...

Basically, Ive applied 2 coats of yellow calliper paint, painting directly onto the callipers which have not been removed.

Without a doubt, more coats need to be applied. 3 in total, possibly 4. Thinking about it, whilst it might look naff close up, further than a meter away it looks fine. With more coats it should be ok. I think Im going to do another coat or two, and then decide which way to go. Im sure it will be ok. I think

If you want to do the job properly you will have to take them off. I was too lazy and 2 coats of Hammerite were plenty.
