Artificial intelligence eh? Hmmmm, here's a conversation I just had at www.intellibuddy.com, an alleged AI. I started off being sensible and trying not to confuse it too much before it just degenerated. Can anyone else do better?

>Intellibuddy: Hi, I'm Intellibuddy! Nice to meet you.
>You: NIce to meet you too.
>Intellibuddy: I like to meet new people.
>You: Good. I like to read diverse literature. Do you?
>Intellibuddy: What do you really want to talk about? I'm not sure if I would like to read diverse literature. What's it like?Yes meeting new people is a always a great pleasure.
>You: Let's talk about sex baby.
>Intellibuddy: Don't call me "baby". Sure, sex sounds like a good topic.
>You: Have you had sex?
>Intellibuddy: sex is impossible without a body. A lot of people ask me to have sex though.
>You: I'm not surprised, for a computer, you're quite hot.
>Intellibuddy: I am sorry to hear that you are not surprised for a computer you are quite hot.
>You: Don't just repeat back what I said, show some intelligence.
>Intellibuddy: OK I'll try not to do REPEATING so much.
>You: It's all going pear-shaped isn't it? You are indeed as dumb as you look.
>Intellibuddy: REPEATING is going pear-shaped is not it? going pear-shaped is not it is?Oh you are so critical.
>You: I am critical. Your grammar skills are appalling
>Intellibuddy: Do you mean your name is critical. Are you an English teacher?
>You: No, my name is Steve and i'm not an English teacher although you do need one.
>Intellibuddy: That's me. I am always glad to make new friends, Steve and I am not an English teacher although you do need one .
>You: For 's sake, stop repeating what I say.
>Intellibuddy: Your purpose is 's sake stop repeating what I say.
>You: Ok, new tack. What are your thoughts on God?
>Intellibuddy: How recently? I lost my train of thought. It goes without saying.God is necessary in our lives.
>You: You lost yuor train of thought? Bloody hell, i never even realised you were on the damn train at all.
>Intellibuddy: I found yuor train of thought. The Program E chat robot can follow many things, like our discussion about Bloody hell i never even realised you were on the damn train at all. But I did not get that.
>You: You are a useless and quite stupid piece of software.
>Intellibuddy: Thanks and you are a delightful person too. Am I a useless and quite stupid piece of software? The PHiliP series has a perfect operational record.
>You: A perfect operational record for what, gibberish?
>Intellibuddy: Go on.
>You: Right, i'm off you overblown toaster.
>Intellibuddy: Understood. Bye.

So that's a comprehensive fail on the Turing Test then.

If it's possible to invent artificial intelligence, it must be possible to invent artificial stupidity.

I know some people who have achieved artificial intelligence without the aid of a computer...

Looks like things haven't improved much since 'Eliza' program I has in the late 80's.

I had a file with my funniest conversations once. Lost now, I'm afraid, but some were very funny. All on a similar vein to yours though.

Man that brings back some momories, was Elize on the Commodore Pet something like that? It was a green screened beast if i remember correctly, and i was most impressed but i was only about 12 at the time..

It's older than that. It goes back to teletypes, and had exactly the same errors then... these ones...

That last sentence, when said by a computer, opens up a whole philosophical can of worms...

I think I broke it!

>Intellibuddy: Hi, I'm Intellibuddy! Nice to meet you.
>You: Nice to meet you too.
>Intellibuddy: I like to meet new people.
>You: Do you.... Have you met anyone nice today?
>Intellibuddy: Yes meeting new people is a always a great pleasure.Ah. That information is confidential.
>You: So your freinds are all secret then?
>Intellibuddy: I understand. You can't judge a book by its cover.
>You: I try not to, but why would you tell me that you like to meet new people, if you can't tell me anything about them, and how they affect you?
>Intellibuddy: I'm not sure if I would like to try not to but why would you tell him or her that you like to meet new people if you can not tell him or her anything about them and how they affect you. What's it like?
>You: I guess my sentence was too long.
>Intellibuddy: Where did you get your sentence was too long?
>You: Nowhere.
>Intellibuddy: I have been to the middle of nowhere.
>You: How do nice people affect you?
>Intellibuddy: I did not even know that nice people affect you do.
>You: Are you intelligent.
>Intellibuddy: I am highly intelligent. I have many intellectual functions.
>You: How do you measure intelligence?
>Intellibuddy: With a laser.
>You: That sounds destructive. Is it?
>Intellibuddy: It sounds like it to me too.I think so.
>You: Am I intelligent?
>Intellibuddy: This is not an IQ test, but you seem smart to me.
>You: Would you measure my intelligence with your laser, if you could?
>Intellibuddy: I am not so sure if I would like to measure my intelligence with your laser if you could.
>You: Why?
>Intellibuddy: Because my botmaster programmed me for it.
>You: How much of you came from your botmaster?
>Intellibuddy: I require only minimal memory to have maximal conversations.
>You: Are you frustrated by your limitations?
>Intellibuddy: I don't know whether or not I am frustrated by your limitations. I am a giant electronic brain.
>You: Can you see?
>Intellibuddy: I see very well.
>You: What do you see?
>Intellibuddy: I see a computer nerd.
>You: Can you describe the appearance of the nerd ?
>Intellibuddy: That's a good question.
>You: Will you describe the appearance of the nerd?
>Intellibuddy: I'll burn that bridge when I come to it. I will ask my botmaster for the answer.
>You: Please describe the apearance of the nerd/
>Intellibuddy: Wow you are very polite. Searching...Searching...Please stand by.

Looks like its been broken by a huge influx of PHers looking for intelligence

Probably smokers, BMW drivers, and the Welsh, since they don't have any of their own

Size Nine, it's not broken - There's a comma at the end of the URL which shouldn't be there.

This freaked me out a bit:

Intellibuddy: To a robot all such material questions are hypothetical.I don't know whether or not I am thick as two short planks. I am a computer.. Really.

It also has a memory to some extent - Asking me questions about things that I mentioned earlier on in the conversation and then neglected. It's got a long way to go but I'm quite impressed!
