If I was single, Id do it

Id like some general advice, comments or feedback.

We have built dating websites for clients in the past, always on a national or international scale.

Im thinking of developing a new dating site myself. Either for a single town, or all the towns in one county. Keeping it 100% free on a small scale until its achieved the level of brand awareness and signups needed to ensure success.

Questions. Would a dating site for your town/city or county appeal? Would you feel more trusting of a larger national established brand? Are there any single people with computers who wouldnt use a dating website?

Id like to think, keeping it small and local, I could develop something which in time would be reasonably successful, unlike the thousandS of dating sites nationwide which have failed miserably.

I've used one a couple of times, because my job makes it very difficult to form new relationships.

I've been on a few dates, and so far its been worthwhile.

The only thing I've noticed is that every woman describes herself as 'attractive'. Just be honest for gods sake!

Personally, I wouldn't bother with such a site. There is far too much competition and you will never make any money without a huge branding exercise/advertising campaign, etc.
Sorry to be negative.

There is a hell of a lot of competition from dating websites out there now. If you are going to focus, though, I'd say target cities where people may not have the time to date because of career pressures.

I'm actually registered with a few as I find it hard to meet new people out & about so E-mailing someone is a bit easier as an Ice breaker.

Unfortunatley I havent met anyone yet...I must be one ugly F****r

The biggest problem I find is cost some of these sites cost a fortune.

I'm registered on...

www.speeddateronline.co.uk
www.datingdirect.co.uk

UKBob,

After a disastrous week on the relationship front i'll give one of the sites listed on this thread ago.

To be honest i've always thought online dating is abit high risk.

Any suggestions as to "profile" wording would be greatly appreciated ... bit of a mind blank.

Regards,

N

Online dating equiv false hope

Not sure really, there are successes but it appears to be preying on insecurities in a certain way...

Possibly. As I haven't used one I can't really comment but I would've thought Speed Dating was a better way of meeting potential partners.

Problem with your traditional dating agencies is that anyone can say whatever they like about themselves and might as well lie in order to get a date.

IMO the worst word anyone can use to describe themselves is 'bubbly', which seems to surmount to 'vacuous overweight bint caked in cheap foundation and tanked on Archers cackling at bad jokes with a horrid laugh that breaks glass yet is incapable of an intelligent conversation and responds to everything you say with "eh, ya wot?" and whose musical tastes will be restricted to 'Now' albums and Ibiza compilations'.

Speed Dating just makes more sense to me. I mean, for a start, you get to meet them in person and talk to them to find out about them, you know they'll live in the area, and you'll be able to tell pretty early on whether you find them annoying or attractive. As you only get five minutes each, there's no feeling of being trapped and wanting to get out and make excuses, and most satisfying, you can find out if you 'match up' with anyone actually at the time, so if the feeling's mutual, you can act on it.

I'm not sure what to do about myself re dating at the moment. I kept taking a particular girl out to lunch and absolutely nothing was progressing, but we're great friends, so I couldn't figure out if she was playing hard to get or just wasn't interested. At least you know, with a dating agency, that you've both been introduced to each other for the same reason. I seem to find myself talking to the same (taken) girls at parties, and meeting people in clubs is pointless as you're there to get drunk with your mates and you can't hear yourself think.

My parents have always treated any 'artificial' means of meeting partners with a massive stigma that I've accepted, but I've seriously had a rethink regarding speed dating, and at least if people ask you can tell people you met in a bar.

As far as dating generally goes, theres a story.

A man stood outside Selfridges on Oxford Street.

He asks every woman he sees if they would like to go to a local hotel and have sex.

As you can imagine he gets slapped rather a lot but then he also gets a lot of sex...

If you dont make any calls, you dont make any sales.

I used dating sites for 6 months and on all occassions met some very nice women. You can weed out the dodgey ones by chatting on MSN etc. By the time you meet you have a good idea if your a match or not its then just down to physical attraction.
Anyone who dismisses this way of meeting people are fools, its safer and easier than any other way I can think of.

If you want to meet a girl and develop a relationship you need to know more than if she is attractive or not. An online dating service has much to recommend it in my opinion, particularly one where pictures are posted.

I think speed dating might be a problem for some people, not everyone is confident to give the right impression in 5 minutes.

Ps have you now got a car with a Twin Cam ?

Maybe so, but it's hardly what I'd call a good relationship.
