£600 for a weekend away?

Hi all,

I've been working silly hours lately, and so my boss has very kindly offered up to £600 to pay for a weekend away... money can be spent on flights, accommodation, food, drinks etc.

No limit on the number of people, either. I'm half-seeing a girl at the moment, or alternatively have a few good mates who might be keen to come.

Any ideas..? I'm not a huge fan of city breaks, so thinking about doing an introductory scuba course somewhere - but where? Alternatively, going somewhere like Morocco might be cool.

I don't want to go somewhere I could get to for £30 on RyanAir, and then stay in a cheap hotel... the money's there, so may as well use it! Also, it has to be in the next month, and preferably sooner rather than later.

Any ideas, suggestions, recommendations? Cheers.

I went to Morocco a year or two ago. I would recommend against it for a weekend - you need longer and it is a four hour o so flight.

Also, from the moment you land to the moment you leave, the entre country is on a mission to get inside your wallet.

The problem with SCUBA is that the water is still a bit cold (6 C In Dosthill this weekend). Wait a couple of months and you could do your PADI open water in Malta or Turkey, plenty of dive schools and plenty of flights. It is best to do a referral where all your class and poolwork are done here before you go at your local PADI centre. In resort you just have to do your open water dives and you are qualified so can spend the rest of your holiday having underwater fun.

Scuba is not the best idea for a weekend away, as you can't fly within 24 hours of having dived.

I know you said you weren't necessarily keen on a city-break, but we had a 3 night trip to New York and it really was superb. If you haven't been, I'd recommend it. See a Broadway show, go up Emprire State Building, the shopping, Ground Zero, Central Park, really is something for everyone.

You can stock up on cheap clothes too. £/$ rate is superb at present - $1.90 to £.

A couple of colleagues drunk cocktails during a recent business stay. HR queried the EUR6 receipts for "orgasms"

Blimey that's expensive! 155 per person per night DB&B! Thats blows the £600 quid budget right there!

£310 per night for two (ok with dinner). Ouuuuch!

You can stay at Inverlochy Castle for that money!

Thanks for the replies. At the moment it's looking like I'll use the Telegraph 2 for 1 Eurostar deal and go to Paris, then use the rest of the budget (about £500) to pay for a great hotel, food, entertainment etc for two.

Other ideas are Barcelona, and did like the look of Babington Hall too. Will have to make up my mind in the next few days.

Any other ideas/advice welcome.
