At least it will be hopefully when I go........
I'm trying to organise a surfing trip (fri-sun) for anywhere between 5-10 guys, some time over June/July down in Cornwall/Devon.
Anyone got any advice on exactly where to go/stay do etc etc?
Should probably mention that none of us actually surf as such so would need somewhere to rent us out the boards/suits etc & probably give us a couple of hours tuition.

Or if you don't want to go that far, Croyde Bay and surrounding area (Saunton and Putsborough) are good for a laugh. Croyde is the best to stay, but gets very, very busy, but all three areas have rental shops.

We are off to Croyde Bay in May for a long weekend. We always stay in the 'Unison' holiday camp where we spent our summer holidays as kids. They can offer self catering or half board. The food is good - excellent selection at breakfast including full English and a carvery for dinner. The accommodation is not the most modern, although they are in the process of updating and rebuilding some of the chalets. Really good value as well - 7 nights half board in June is about £270 per adult.
There is a swimming pool and evening entertainment - which is usually a good laugh, and a bar!

Forgot to add - the holiday village is a short walk over the sand dunes to get to the beach and there is a surf school - wet suits and boards can be hired locally - although my Dad (Aged 80) still prefers to surf in his speedos and t-shirt!

If you're going to Newquay area:
Watergate Bay - better surf than the main beach in Newquay (just), with a whole host of rental kit available.
If you book early, there's a B&B called The Phoneix (sp?) right on the beach too. However, not much to do if you don't go night surfing (impossible without your own boards, and not something I recommend without life gards available).
If not there aren't many campsites that will take any group (2+) of single-sex people. If you get a girl or two to go you'll be sorted. If not, there's a place on the way to Watergate Bay from Fistral breach. Walking distance (if you're really tanked) from Newquay centre, pretty loud, but I'm afraid I have no idea what it's called. If it helps, they hold the 'Run For The Sun' festival there - 4 day event with 3/4 tents of various music (and drugs).
In Newquay itself there are a few places to stay B&B, with a lot going on every night... pretty dingy and can get very grim, but with a crowd of your own you should be fine.

Polzeath is horrible.
If you want to get a surf forecast look at www.a1surf.com, SJ's surf forcast tells you what its going to be like roughly and there are reliable links to current reports. You don't want to turn up and find Watergate is 10-12ft which is possible!
If you want to drown, go to Mawgan Porth. I reckon watergate is the go. A1 will have a link to the operations down there, it's also a safe beach, even when it's massive. Have fun, enjoy it and hopefully you will get 'stoked'. It's why I live in Cornwall

Horrible..? Has it changed so much in the last 10 years..?(I used to work in Anns Cottage
) I Agree completely about watergate wave being better, however the polzeath wave is ideal for learners.. saying that if you want something peaky try Lundy Cove at low tide with a decent sea
