Financial trouble has hit the royal wedding with calls for Buckingham Palace to contribute to the cost of policing Saturday's event.
The wedding was put back by 24 hours to enable the Prince of Wales to travel to Rome for Pope John Paul II's funeral on Friday.
His marriage to Camilla Parker Bowles will now take place at 12.30pm on Saturday instead.
The move has disrupted the racing world with Aintree organisers deciding to delay the start of the world famous Grand National by 25 minutes to 4.10pm.
And the postponement has also caused a considerable headache for those trying to police the wedding in Windsor, with many officers having to work when they should have been on a day off.
Hundreds of officers from the Metropolitan Police and the Thames Valley force will be deployed in a huge joint operation headed by Commander Bob Broadhurst.
There was yet more trouble for the Royal Family when it emerged that two intruders broke into the private area of Windsor Castle just days before the royal wedding.
Scotland Yard refused to confirm reports that police officers would have to be paid overtime at twice their normal shift rate - possibly doubling the cost of the policing operation.
But Sally Hannon, chairwoman of the Thames Valley Police Authority, said the date change would be costly and she hoped Buckingham Palace would make some contribution to help cover the additional cost.
"It's normal for police authorities, when they have large events like this, to ask for extra funds," she said. "We probably will ask the palace for a contribution because, though we don't know the actual amount yet, it is likely to be large."

I've seen the error of my ways on this already, I wasn't particularly thinking it through before typing a reply.
I have nothing against Charlie boy and Camilla getting married, I hope he is finally happy.

People want to go and show their support for a royal wedding. They bring in far more than in tourism annually than they will spend on the policing this one event.
Besides it will be a novelty to see a copper in Windsor as after a 20% rise in Council Tax just for the Police I have been wondering where that money has gone...

It's an interesting question: On the one hand there's a need for more police because of the wedding, on the other it's not their fault there'll be massive crowds and a potential terrorist threat. I'm sure they'd rather everyone f

i'm with mrs fish, he should pay, unless eh doesn;t want to, in which case he gets no security especially since he changed the date, he did not have to go to the popes funeral, we are not a catholic country and he is not head of state
it is my understanding that footbal grounds and rock concerts have to pay towards the policing costs ( personally i think they should pay for all of them) the probelm with the royals is they want to be both public and private figures, you can't have it both ways, like when philip complained that windsor castle was a public building and so had no insurance and so the public should pay for it's reapir when it was burnt down. Well if it belongs to the state, you owe us rent if it belongs to the royal family, you owe us inheritance tax on it

The parasite Charles Windsor should pay, but then of course he can't cos he gets all him money off us in the first place. Of course, if the Bibs get more pay for Saturday rather than Friday then the Catholic Church should cough up the difference or have their assets sequestrated. All this wedding crap should not be allowed to interupt an important event like the Grand National. Time for a republic I don't want that petulant little parasite as head of state, or his son.

Prince Charles should be King now and if your animal farm comments refer to his to sons then remember when you where a teenager...they have done nothing that i didn't/still do...the only difference is i didn't the worlds press following me round waiting for me to drop a bollock!!
