I just remembered, my TAX expires on the 31 03 05 I assume its valid on that day, which is tomorrow?

I was expecting the tax form in the post, which I assume is correct? (Im new to taxing cars etc) I didnt get one, and in the pile of papers I thought all my car docs were in, all I can find are alarm installation docs, grand theft auto cheats and sprint magazines

What do I need to find and take to the post office to get taxed?

MOT, insurance cert and at least the green 'new keeper' bit from the V5. Not sure if you can still fill out a separate form if you haven't got the V5.

I have not got an MOT as the motorbike is less 3 years old.

V5 (big green form with your name and address on it)
MOT certificate (if car more than 3 years old)
Insurance certificate or cover note
Payment for 6 or 12 months - I get my disk from the PO and they're happy with a cheque payable to Post Office Ltd.

Yeah, but if I dont find the forums, then what? I'll have to take the bloody car off the road, I dare not drive an untaxed car, if I had an accident my insurance would be invalid. I suspect im in for a night of searching through papers fun.

At least not everybody "A friend" of mine forgot to tax his Range Rover last year for a month and currently hasn't heard anything

And re insurance, IIRC it does depend very much on policy wording

Mine was about a week late just after they brought in the new tax rules and I never got an automatic fine.

My friend was a bit shit with the paper work on his bike and they took 2 1/2 months to catch him for that

My friend also doesn't usualy post this late but he's still in the office catching up on paper work, oooh the irony

"A friend" completely forgot to get her Chim taxed during a period when it resided in the garage unused!

6 weeks later - cue: panic and a mad dash to the Post Office, armed with a list of excuses and crocodile tears at the ready...

Just declare it SORN, then carry on trying to find the papers. By the time the SORN declaration is processed, you'll have found them, then they just backdate the tax to the start of the month anyway.

Is SORN the not in use declaration? How long does it take to get new forms, can I continue driving without the forms (with a phone call or two?) or cant I use the car till i get the forms, and go to the post office?

I cant find both the vehicle registration and MOT docs, so im hoping they are together, somewhere I'll find em tonight!!
