Living on the coast I am thinking of buying another radio scanner (I had an old AOR1500EX which will be going on eBay shortly) to keep an ear on whats going on at sea plus I thought I might be able to hear pitlane comms at Le Mans later this year.

Looking on eBay I found an Icom IC-R5 for £130 plus shipping, does anyone know if this is a good un? If not any other recommendations?

TIA,

Mark

A few years back I bougth Roop a Yeasu VR500 and he is well happy with it.

He was looking at the VR500 and the I-com and the VR500 suited his needs better.

I am sure he will be happy to help if you have any further queries.

I have one, used to listen to mobile phone calls mainly (good laugh that was ) but Im not really into them in a big way.

Got a mate who is tho, email me and I'll put you in touch with him.

From my inexperienced view, what you want is to get a scanner which scans the entire range. Right from low down to high up. Not sure what the range is, but buying one like mine will let you listen to absolutely everything.

Good luck, have fun Edited to add, im stating the obvious again but make sure you do your research carefully, there are some great things out there to tune into, beyond the usual naval/air/baby monitor/phone stuff if you have the right frequencies

I've had an ICOM R-1 for years, ICOM makes the best scanners in the world IMO.
