Job Choice Help...

How the hell do I always end up in these situations...

I have been offered a contract job with a pretty good software company managing implementation with there customers, the contract is 6months, but is likely to turn into perm, like all the people seems good etc.

I have also been in the process of interviewing for a lesser position but at a certain large software comany that we all know and love.

The problem I have is I need to try and make a decision today without going for the final interview at the large well known company, but would probably have a good career at said company if I was sucessful... what do I do, try and drag out the contract job offer until friday when the last interview would be... or just give up and accept the contract position. there is probably more money in it for me taking the contract too... bloody hell how do I end up with these decisions to make... ps I have an hour and I have to tell the recruitment agency yes or no

How do you know you would get the job with the larger company?

I'd go for the one you've been offered

No you don't. Why would a 2pm deadline be set?

until you have signed do you have to proceed with the offered job?

could you not agree verbally ask for the documents to be posted to you, in post wed at soonest, arrive thurs soonest, put on mantel one day have interview,
receive feed back, monday,,,,,
decisions to make on monday then?
or is this stringing it all a bit too much?


only issue is how much you value your word, no different than accepting a job and still going for interviews in first month of a new job as had started chasing the job with the other company before you got the offer. and for first 6 months only short notice so need to keep options open after all.

if i were you, i would tell both companies that you are under offer from another company. it cannot harm you, or them, to wait three days to start youre employment. being sensible enough to want to consider your options before starting something you wont finish (that wastes your time and theirs) doesnt make you less employable, it makes you more employable.

as for which job, in my experience, id pick the one that offers the best package of potential, comfort, money BUT most of all happiness (or in the case of most jobs, the least unhappiness). career prospects at a large company are fine, as is the implied security in their market prevalence, but at what cost to you? will you ever get to go home? will they recognise your obvious brilliance or will you just be a number to them? if so, how will that make you feel? lack of security is one thing, a lack of recognition and respect for your work is quite another, and most likeley the aspect that will occupy your thoughts most often.

thanks guys, I guess I've made my mind up, I'm going for the risky option, smaller company more money etc... then see what happens, will try and go to the interview at microsoft if possible, have already delayed making decision from last week so can make them wait anymore as they need someone asap. ah well off to phone the "recruitment" agency... don't you just love them...
