The Ending of anonymity for sperm and egg donors
Discussion
New laws come into effect this week which remove the anonymity of sperm and egg donors.
The legislation will allow children born from donated sperm and eggs to trace their biological parents when they turn 18.
Doctors fear it will lead to the collapse of donors in this country-and lead to infertile couples having to go abroad for treatment.
There has already been a 30 fold decrease in sperm donations over the past decade-driven mainly by proposals for the end of anonymity.
What does everyone think?
My own view is that anonymity should be preserved the 'real' parents of a child is not someone wan*ing off into a test tube-but who looks after them throughout their childhood.

This pre-occupation with searching out an absentee (parent) all seems a bit ungrateful, if you've been raised by someone else in the first place, however if the enquiry was thus;
Social services;
'We know now, who & where your donor father is, would you like this information forwared to you in a letter?
Curious ungrateful offspring;
'Is he richer, than my so-called parents who raised me?
'No'
'Oh.................. just forget it then'

I was a sperm donor! Although for many years I did not know about it!
12 years after I donated it, I was found by the CSA who are charging me £400 per month for the donation!
If that is what is likely to happen to those who donate, then the answer must be stop donating!

Absolutely. I'm not sure how a child would cope learning the truth in any case, it may only serve to have a detrimental affect on his/her psychological and emotional wellbeing however well-meaning the intention.

No.
Not quite like that. I helped out a female (without realising) who had an agenda I did not know about for 12 years until she needed some extra cash!

Ahh, gotcha..... Even more glad I had my tubes cut!!!

I remember being skint at Uni and saw an ad for Sperm Donors. £15 a shot so to speak. A quick calculation revealed that I could earn over £30K for 'working' 3/4 of the year with weekends. This entailed 12 whanks a day, 5 days a week for 3/4 of the year. I took my proposal to the clinic where I nominated myself as the house stud. The woman told me to sod off! I was going to try the old trick of "I need some assistance here" with both of my hands bandaged up. I suppose you could 'make' some sperm substitute, a sort of colloidal emulsion, wallpaper paste stylee.
Good job I didn't go for that. £15 was not enough for an 'aliquot' IMO.

I suppose you could go around and cut a business deal with a few prozzies
*Has visions of rocking up in a pimped up old Mercedes to collect 'the goods'*
Surely theres a possibilty of many offspring contacting you due to you handing
over several million of the little potentials....
With reduced numbers its an increased possibilty too
I can see they are going to have to increase the inducements to get the donors along, I can see some yummy nursy nurses being employed by unscrupulous NHS trusts to get the business from pissed up lads walking home past the hospitals after a night out on the town
