Down with the 'tabs!

Watched from the Banks of the Thames with my friends. Some are Tabs, some are Dark Blues so there was some friction!

Wasn't a very good race though, Oxford were irrectably ahead by the time they went past me. And I think an hour would've been ample on the television.

Was amused to see that not only did Goldie beat Isis by 5 lengths, but were actually 3 seconds faster than the Oxford Blue boat

I was the first person to ever teach one of the Oxford crew how to row, back in about '93. He was rubbish back then, but maybe just a little better than me, now.

I felt a strange sense of pride actually. He wasn't very keen on sport at all, but we got him into rowing to give him soemthing to do. Strange how it all works out.

On another point - wondered if any oarsmen on here agreed with the commentators during the race?

I watched it with a couple of rowing buddies, and we agreed that Cambridge looked far slicker - longer strokes, sharper at the catch, cleaner at the finish, etc. They looked like the better technical crew. Oxfrod had shorter strokes, were more choppy, were really snatching at strokes - but obviously had a bit more power which ultimately gave them the length or so advantage that they used to get in front.

...but the commentators said the complete opposite? Oxford a better technical crew? WTF?

And they were better qualified to be making comment than us, too. Odd.
