Hello.

I have a strange feeling on the left side of my jaw, towards the back of my teeth.

It's a mild irritation really, and it's been there for a while but I'm finding I'm more conscious of it now. If I apply pressure to the upper-left of jaw with my tongue, roughly in the area of my back teeth, it hurts a bit.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you have pericoronitis. Hot salty mouthwash or corsodyl. No offense meant but I've never seen so many dentist and docter posts on a forum before

It's inflamation of the gum around a wisdom tooth usually. And yep you missed a bit Try to press the brush down so the bristles splay out and go under the flap of gum which probably half covers your wisdom tooth. If you keep getting the problem you may want to think about having it out. On the other hand that can hurt like hell afterwards

I think you're right - I noticed that one of my wisdom teeth also feels a bit funny.

I don't fancy having it out, but might just arrange an appointment with Dr D.Kay (no, really!) anyway. A good clean up is required, you say?

I had problems with my wisdom teeth for 8 years with on and off infections. My dentist at the time suggested extraction but I didn't fancy it much. I got recurrent infections but just grinned and beared it. Eventually they erupted enough so that the flap of gum no longer covered the teeth and bits of food could no longer get stuck down there and cause infection. Yours could go either way. Anyway i've just finished 50 hours of the same for this week so I'll make my excuses Good luck with it.

Do those hot salty mouth washes though-they really help!

Edited ,after re-reading the name of your dentist, to say if it's not a piss take that is.

I'm sure somebody will be along in a minute to make a hot salty mouth wash gag... But I'll give it a try!

Cheers.

Yeah I have a couple of partially erupted wisdom teeth and they do get inflamed every now and then. Apparently the best thing is to get some antibiotics to reduce the inflammation - and rinse with warm salty water as posted above.

Dentist did say if it happens a lot then it might be an idea to remove the "gum flap" .. but don't quite fancy that!
