Someone ID this classic house anthem please
Discussion
It’s from the early to mid nineties (aren’t they all). It starts with a solo melody on a synth. Then there’s quite a down beat house drum beat with a soul bass line. There’s a female soul vocal. The first verse starts “Sometimes I try too hard to (can’t remember the rest)”. The chorus is “I know, I know, I can count on you”. There’s a really uplifting strings riff during the chorus. A bit like Massive Attack’s Unfinished Sympathy if you see what I mean but it’s not that. Not much to go on I’m afraid. I’m hoping the opening line and chorus will get it for someone
.
The tune’s been buzzing round in my head all morning. I’m sure I have it in my mp3 collection but playing the obvious candidates hasn’t turned it up and I can’t remember for the life of me what it’s called. I’ve googled the lyric snippets above but they didn’t turn up anything relevant either. Please help! I’ll go mad if I don’t find out what it is before I go out tonight

Oooh while we've got a music thread open, I'm hoping someone can tell me the title/artist for a song that has been my earworm this week. In was in the charts in the last 6 months, black artist and the lyrics are about what happened in her life "1988 I {not sure exactly what she says} but something about starting to get by."
It's not really my usual type of music but I just *have* to know.

1980, year that God made me...
The song is 1980 by Estelle.
The Source ftCandy Statton is a better track though!
Edited to get who featured who the right way round.

Awesome tune. I believe the vox at the start are... :
"...Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air, but I know, I can count on you;
Sometimes I feel like saying Lord I just don't care, but you've got the love I need to see me through..."
This track sampled the earlier 'Your Love' track by Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle - a great track in itself. Slightly more chilled out that the version by The Source and Candi Staton.

Here's one for you. I've been trying to trace it for months or even years since about 2000!!
It'a cheesy/handbag style dance track with the word Flowers in the title, it might even have been called Flowers. I heard it in March 2000 so may have been released up to March 2000 but definitely no later than then.
It has a female vocal - saying flowers, naturally.
I'm quite sure it is not Flowers/Flowerz by Sweet Female Attitude and not Flowers by Armand van Helden (although conceivably it could be a remix).
Any ideas?

How ODD!
I have that song on right now. (The 'You got the love' one) I think early dance tracks are by far the best
Whoever was waffling about a 'flowers' track. Did you cancel out it not being 'I bring you flowers in the pouring rain,' which I know you said...! It's quite catchy actually, so you'd know it :Scratchchin:

That lyric is Sweet Female Attitude, it's not that. I got it on mp3 if you really want it stuck in your head forever

and agreed Candi Staton is a much better track.Playing it now.
No problem, just realised I haven't got Candi Statton in my mp3 colelction
It's on about a dozen of my compilations albums though, so this afternoon I will be mostly ripping late nineties house albums.

A fantastic track featured on GTA San Andreas, along with a couple of other classics. Frankie Knuckles is a genius. Tears is one of my all time favourite tracks.

Playing it now.
Going through exactly the same process here!
