Anybody bought property in Slovenia or thereabouts

Just wondering if anyone has done it or has any experiences/recommendations from looking into it.
I've been keeping my eye open for a holiday type place.
Criteria are:
No flats as I live in one just now.
At least 2 bedrooms.
Within a couple of hours drive (allowing for weather) of ski area.
Within a days drive of Calais.
Cheapish (compared to UK).
Don't mind a bit of work to do as I usually have a bit of time on my hands.
Ideally I would be looking to free up a bit of money on my flat here to pay for a place there unless someone can suggest a better way.
I was looking at French Alps originally, especially as someone I know bought a 4 bed chalet for 120k Euro but they sort of prices are few and far between for something that size.
So... I've recently found an alternative which ticks a lot of boxes.
North West Slovenia
It seems to be a bit of an adventure sport playground. I can board in the winter on the local slopes or wander into Austria. Paraglide in the summer, kayaking, rock climbing. It's also close enough to Italy to keep 'er indoors happy.
Investment income would be a bonus but is a definate second to my outdoor enjoyment.
I've searched the archives but there is nothing in there but seeing as Europe is now a much bigger playground I thought someone might have looked into this already and can give a bit of insite into how it worked out.

It's too far away and I would have one helluva job convincing the g/f to go there. I'm having enough trouble trying to get her to agree to a detour through Bosnia on a summer trip 
A big attraction about Slovenia is that it has a good paragliding community and it is a good bit closer to some of the bigger sites like mayrhoffen and livigno than the UK is. I also lose too many flying days at home cause the weather is frankly rubbish.

'kin 'ell! I came back from that area last year, although I didn't cross the border into Slovenia. I was towing, but was doing 80 mph for long distances, sometimes that was all that was possible through traffic. It took me two lo....ng days. Stopped in Rothemburg ob der Tauber, and from there to Calais, another long day. Think you'll need the roads cleared for you in advance to do it in one.

Thanks, I may take you up on that after I've managed a bit more research into things and if I have a few properties in mind.

Yep, the italians used to go to Slovenia and Croatia the way the Brits go to Spain.
It's only 8-900 miles from Calais so should be easy in a day. We used to do Glasgow-Tuscany in a day.
The Julian Alps area looks great but I'll have a closer look when I pop over in a few months.

It's only 8-900 miles from Calais so should be easy in a day. We used to do Glasgow-Tuscany in a day.
