Is it just me or does anyone else think that Dwayne is a complete arse?
Boyd isn't much better, he's pompus and always likes to show his workers who's the boss. He does give them days out which is nice but it's like a guilt thing after he has fired or had to discipline somebody.
The way he gets on the tannoy and says "Would all employees of Boyd Coddington report to my office immediately"
Who the else will be in his workshops but his employees!
Talk about alienate your workforce, he and his manager Dwayne (who's managerial skills extend to mocking and swearing at the staff) both need to attend a good management training course on how to handle people. How the hell can they expect to be respected?
I'm not sure the series is a great advert for them

I'm not sure the series is a great advert for them
agree. That Dwayne chap really needs to get his head out from his arse and take look around at his work colleages. He ignores all the interns too who are they, for free, to learn on the job. What kind of attitude is that? I would love to build cars for a living, but not under the continual stress people who work at Boyd's must be under!
'tis a good series though and would probably be less interesting if there wasn't the odd argument

How much of this is acting up for the cameras though? It's just like American Chopper in that respect. Loved the start of the new series though. Half the staff resign or are fired and Boyd thinks that morale will be lifted by accepting a project to build a new car for a show in 8 weeks time. Brilliant management.

Keep meaning to post that myself Seems amazing that Boyd can't see that Dwayne (or is it "Duane"? Or "Cletus" perhaps??) is one of the major problems there. He never seems to do anything other than piss and whine and slam doors.
Also can't work out whether the problems they have with parts supply is because of Boyd's stupid bint ex-wife, or that Cletus never orders things in time.
Whilst we're on the subject, that guy Mike: does anyone in the world look any dumber than that???

I think he also runs an ally wheel making business under a different name on the same site.

Boyd has lost the plot for sure, his best workers are ready to quit and without Charlie the place is going to fold. Duane is a typical example of the average Brit supervisor, no intelligence and all the people skills of a pregnant gorilla. He should of fired that fat sack of ignorance cherry bear or whatever and given the supervisors job to Charlie. He sacked that girl without a warning and pissed off his oldest employee, how in f**k he's lasted as long amazes me

I think he mentioned in an earlier series that he smashed himself up whilst testing a car on the salt flats, so a large part of his face is paralysed with nerve damage. Seems like a pretty smart engineer though.

I find that when he does a day out for the boys it is usually when they have a deadline to finish a car. They did one where the guys got trained by Navy Seals, had them doing an assalt course. What if one of them got hurt and couldnt work on the car, thats just stupid. Take them out after they have finished the car as a thank you but not in the middle of a build.
American Chopper is just boring me now, different bike same shouting and ranting.

I agree with the exception of Mike, he is a thoughtful guy and is pretty good with people. He talks slowly because he has paralysis in his face due to a bad motoring accident in the past. I think even dwayne and Boyd have a good level of respect for him.
The other guy who has a superb attitude is Charlie and I couldn't believe that Boyd was on his case about the other guy taking the time off, he'd be really stupid if he forced Charlie out. That guy is a great worker and a real craftsman.
Dwayne is a very poor communicator and has a foul temper, you're right about Boyd not seeing what Dwayne is like and being the cause of the friction.
I just couldn't believe what Dwayne said to that intern, as workshop manager surely it his job to take an interest in the intern and put him to work and build up his enthusiasm and knowledge. He basically said he had no idea what he'd been doing or what he was there for before giving the intern the benefit of his wisdom on his future career very sarcastically, Dwayne just made himself look a complete t
t! It was funny when the newbie started and they really did take the pee by sending him out on errands and to get their lunches, so he went and got a hair cut ....fantastic

If you mean Bluebear, he does get sacked in one episode, boyd allows him to build a car and Boyd wanted him to box the frame rails for safty/strength.
Boyd was paying for all the parts and allowed him to build the car and he kept talking back and arguing and being a ass so at last he got sacked. He should have been out the door ages ago I dont know why he was there for so long, got the impression there was history between them.

IIRC He was a passenger in a car Boyd was testing on the salt flats, it rolled and both Boyd and Mike had to be 'coptered to hospital, Mike needing pins plates reconstruction surgery and all manner of re-hab.
He says about it when they go and test the bare aluminium bodied car.

I saw Blue Bear as the workshop jester who kept spirits high and helped bond everyone with laughter, quite a valuable asset in the work force I think, certainly not as cheery a place these days.
Boyd on the face of it was being nice offering to pay for the build cost of Blue bears car also said he would let him do it his way, but then proceeded to tell him how to build his car which was not what they agreed at the start , fair play to Blue Bear for standing his ground, he can hold his head high IMO. (funny guy too)

Blue Bear was a family friend of Boyd and they went back a way so he was a bit soft with him.
Blue Bear changed so much when he was given the go-ahead to build his car and he did deserve to get canned, he was very blunt and aggressive with all his colleagues who were giving him support.
Boyd again didn't handle it very well, he just ordered Blue Bear to do the work on his car and do it his way and didn't properly explain why so Blue Bear just got more annoyed with what he saw as interference from Boyd. Blue Bear really did push his luck though, I'd never have spoken to a boss like he did.
Well, actually I did many years ago but resigned anyway!

From what I saw I thought Boyd was trying to get Bluebear to make the car safer by boxing the frame rails, which considering it was being built in his shop was a fair call.

True, but Boyd was quite right not to let him do things which were dangerous which he couldn't see because of his lack of experience.
