See the scaremongerers are at it again - B.Liar says that Intelligenge services say there are 100s of terrorists lurking in Britain just waiting to strike - Now why do I not believe him? WMD springs to mind!
Security Forces say they have foiled 4 or 5 attempts - well is 4 or is it 5 or is it pre-election hype?
Or am I just being my usual cynical self when ever I hear announcements like this?

If there are 100s of them why don't they go out and arrest them, then?

This type of crap really me off.... From anyone.... be it political or business based....

The reality is that there are terrorists in our midst at the moment. However, they will be handfulls rather than hundreds. Of those the majority will talk the talk but only a few will actually carry out any type of attack - even fewer would be prepared to die for their actions (a la suicide bomber!).

Can the security services cope? Probably given a little more flexibility. Are we all going to die under a sea of suicide bombers? Nah, not on your nelly.

Political gain? You betcha..... deceiptful er

Because they don't know who they are, let alone where they are. The whole thing is complete guesswork and it's typical of Blair's brass neck that he can make this sort of a statement when it is his deliberate policies that have to this country willfully losing control of its borders and security.

i find it entirely believable-alot of people have come here from Algeria or Pakistan etc, made ayslum claims and cannot be deported because of risk of torture etc etc.

As to why they cannot be dealt with-lack of evidence.

Ever read 1984? Retitle it 2005 and pretty much Orwell had it right.

Government double speak protecting the population from some invisible threat all the while removing our freedom in the name of our safety.

Given the choice I would rather have the freedom.

Live free and possibly die younger or live caged forever?

you decide.......

A lot of people have come here claiming asylum from other lands - are you going to call them terrorists as well ?
So if there's a lack of evidence, how can one put out a pronouncement like that ?

I'm sure you are aware what has een going on in Algeria and to a much lesser extent Pakistan-Whole villages wiped out man woman and child.

Those suspected of being terrorists have links to the radical islamic groups who carried out these atrocities.

I think we need to be farmore careful about who we let in to this country-andfar less naive about the character of many of these 'asylum' seekers.

Senator McCarthy rides again.

Bring back the Soviet Union - at least we had a tangible "enemy" to rail against.

Well in all the excitement I just can't remember. You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?

So you don't think that in a country with 60,000,000+ people they'll be 100 that are prepared to blow themselves up for their cause? Particularly considering the couple of hundred thousand immigrants that arrive every year, both legally and illegally.

Not only do I reckon that's an extremely conservative estimate, but I reckon you could almost find that many outside Finsbury Park Mosque alone.

Well, Methinks that if they'd have wanted to blow themselves up and take a few us along with them, they've had ample opportunity up til now.
My feeling is that we're so soft that it's easier for them to make this a home base for planning and co-ordinating attacks elsewhere. Start biting the hand that feeds you and their power base would be wiped out from under them.

I find it amazing just how quickly people are becoming complacent about terrorist threats. It was exactly this kind of complacency that made it possible for 9/11 to happen.

I am even more amazed how many posters here are obviously in close contact with senior members of MI5, to be so sure that there are only a handful of muslims here who might really do something nasty...besides, how many would it really take?

When there is an attack, and there will be, I wonder how many of those who have claimed the Govt, security forces and Police have overplayed the threat, and argued against house arrests and increased powers to combat terrorists in our midst, will then be denouncing the State for not having done enough to protect us...

I don't think we're becoming complacent - don't forget we lived with the IRA ( and still do, to some extent ) for over 30 years. It's more that this government has generated so much spin and deceipt over the past few years that we no longer trust them to tell us the truth and even if it was the truth, they'd be economical with it!
What you seem to be advocating is the loss of every person's democratic & historic freedoms for the sake of a few and the imposition of a new form of autocracy.
In which case the terrorists have won and this country would then be ripe for a a take-over.
