Just in case Lisa had missed any of the great news stories of last week, I thought I'd share some of the scintilating stories that were in the news while me and Mrs Beano were in Dubai last week.

That's right DUBAI, United Arab Emirates in last week of 2004.

Our favourite stories are, in no particular order:

500 car accidents because of the first rain of any significance in ages

Italian man fined Dh12,000 (about £2,000) for hugging and kissing a woman in a taxi in public, near the airport (Woman was from Egypt and got fined Dh2,000)

Burglar admits crime and expects to have right hand amputated

First snow in living memory falls in the UAE. Ruling Shaikh had to go and see for himself (it's a bit like expecting your Prime Minister to come home if there's an international disaster...)

Private schools have no right to expel pupils without approval from the ministry of education

Teenagers on quad bikes are terrorising the streets of Fujairah....

...oh and a Mrs V Ghandi wrote in to the paper to call for speed humps outside of somewhere or other because "as you know speed humps save lives"......... Blimey - it's a small world.....

LOL, nothing changes then, when I was about 14 I fell off mine right in front of a Police car (white and green 'S' clas Mercedes). I had to sit and wait in Adnan Dhajanis' office (Chief of Police) until my mum came to fetch me. It was about 1977/78 I think. I fell off it again later on in the day on the beach, I still have the scars.
