3-Piece Suits + Who makes them + Where to buy them
Discussion
Chaps,
I am enough of an old fart to wear a 3-piece suit. (Any rude comments, please make them now. All done? Good, let's get on with it then.)
And I am finding them harder and harder to come by. They always were scarce, but several maufacturers seem to be discontinuing them. I have met with success with Daniel Hechter and Pierre Cardin before (Hechter good, Cardin nasty). Now, neither of them seem to be doing them at all. I have just tried a new make - Tom English, but this was only found after a long search. (Anyone know anything about how good they are, out of interest?)
So, my question is, are there any other 3-piece wearers on here, and where do you buy yours? Austin Reed - no. Aquascutum - No. TM Lewin - no. Hackett - no. John Lewis/Debenhams/House of Fraser/Selfridges - not at all. Harrods - not really (sir). Suits You (ugh!) came up with the aforementioned Tom English. Short of coughing up the sky-high prices for Saville Row and bespoke tailoring, where sells them?
All help most welcomed. I really don't think I could cope with only wearing a 2-piece! (Yes, I do have shades of ponce ...)
Oli.

I buy them when I can find them. Great value as I go to visit clients for a week or so (staying away) & they're effectively 2 suits in one (with/without the waistcoat on different days).
Currently use Ede & Ravenscroft who, occassionally, have them - well fitted too. Otherwise it's just a case of keeping an eye open for them.
Before gojng pretty much exclusively to E&R I found some at Slaters Menswear as well - but too 'styled' for my liking.

AFAIK Armani and Aquascutum still make 3 piece suits, they just sell the waistcoat as a seperate item in case you only want a 2 piece.
Or if you're feeling rich you could go for a Huntsman
I'm pretty sure that I was offered a waistcoat with an Aquascutum (off the peg) suit I got a couple of months ago from the shop on Regents Street.

Surely that tells you something......?
My only other suggestion is to get one of your favourite suits copied by a good tailor. I've just had three made to measure suits (Jacket, trousers, long & short skirt) in 80/20 Wool Cashmere mix made in Bangkok for under £400. Price includes shipping, exluding duty if HM Customs invoice me. A two piece Armani suit normally costs me ~£450. IMHO these are a bargain, particularly when the fabric has the Gieves and Hawkes name on the selvedge edges!
Otherwise you're probably looking at Saville Row or a gentleman's outfitter, but I'd imagine you look at a starting price of £650 at standard place.
ETA: Had a look on t'net for Saville Row suits.

An off the peg Giorgio Armani is £600 anyway (except in the sale, I got one for £300) so you may as well go to Saville Row.. I got one made by Gieves & Hawkes at No. 1 about 5 years ago for £750 for a 2-piece but with a spare pair of trousers. It's not fully bespoke which starts at around 2 grand, but it's not off the peg either, it's the one in between.. made to measure I think they call it. Still had the whole choice though, of fabric, style, lining, buttons, no. of vents, etc etc.
Or as suggested earlier, use a travelling tailor, I've got one in Hong Kong who travels to London every now and then. He takes your measurements and requirements and sends it all to HK where it is made and shipped back to you. My last couple were £400 each, inc. 2 pairs of trousers. Let me know if you need his phone number.

Yes, but I've been ignoring it.
I've had a couple of 3 piece suits made by Barney Goodman in Sheffield and found them to be excellent, (well fellow PHers that normally see me in Jeans and a fleece thought I scrubbed up well in one of them..) A few people I know in London travel up here to have them made, excellent quality and a very reasonable price, from about £350 to 500 depending on material, cut and whether you get a spare pair of trousers made up or not, (definately a good idea).
A mate of a mate has just set up www.dress2kill.com/ and I'm told is very good though I've not yet tried them myself. Probably will in the next few weeks as I could do with a couple more making up..

Trotter & Dean will make you one up for about £600. The snag is, you have to get down to Bury St Edmunds for the measuring and the fitting(s).
