I don't know if anyone saw the comedy awards the other night, but the subject of "Spinal Tap" came up. Fantastic movie, possibly the funniest movie I've ever watched.

Anyhow, they're interviewing Ozzie Osbourne about it and he said "I didn't think it was funny, but assumed it was a serious documentary because that's what it's like backstage". How funny is that?

good ol' Ozzy!

I just bought the Spinal Tap DVD for £4.99 in Blockbusters (not an ex rental copy either)!

When i put the case on the counter, the guy behind the counter read the name back to me as they do..

He said

" This is Spinal 'Top'!".....

How can you work in a Video shop and never have heard of Spinal Tap?? Gadzooks man...

I was watching a VH-1 show on old metal the other day, and they had all these old bands commenting on Spinal Tap. Can't remember who exactly it was, but one guy said "That movie is hilarious, but it gets less and less funny, and more and more reality the longer you stay in this business."

I can just see it now. The following extract might be based on true events

Ozzie - This dial goes up to 11. Most bands only have amps that go up to 10, but ours goes up to 11.
Interviewer - Is it louder, then?
Ozzie - Yes, it's 1 louder.
Interviewer - Well, why not just make 10 a little louder, and make 10 the loudest?
Ozzie - ...This goes up to 11.

I only found out via that comedy show (The Comedians' Comedian IIRC) that the pricncipal actors were all Americans. It makes me love the film that little bit more knowing that the utterly convincing English accents are not genuine.

They were a spoof.......

They were a spoof - but they still played live at Wembley Stadium - I think it was for Nelson Mandela's birthday party before he was released.

Except the drummer, who died in a bizarre gardening accident.

Yeah that surprised me as well - very convincing accents. It's fair to say that Mel Gibson (Braveheart) might have something to learn from these chaps!
