Fancied doing something with leeks, got them but never cooked them before, looked all over the damn thing - no instructions!

Cheese sauce maybe?

Lol, I've looked before for leek recipes, and not a huge amount around. I ended up doing a leek tart (think it was a delia recipe). Could use them in a pasta sauce or a stir fry also.

I slice mine across the leak, then pan fry in a griddle type pan with a drop of olive oil. about 8-10 mins if they are 1/2 thick or so.

I steam them for 10 minutes, slice them diagonally, cover in a blue cheese sauce and sprinkle a crust of parmesan and breadcrumbs over before putting it in a medium oven for 20 minutes!

And if you don't mind the calories...

Half olive oil, half butter. Into pan. Heat. Roughly chopped onion into pan. Fry. Two cloved garlic - finely chopped. Into pan. Fry. Then add leeks. Eight to ten later (after much stirring and turning) - yummy.

But the butter and olive oil isn't for the weight-concious...

leek and onion soup. Melt some butter (or chosen alternative) then fry some onions in it. Once they are nice and brown add chopped up leeks ( and chopped potatos if you wish) and some water and let it simmer for a while. Add some salt and pepper and you're good to go

Cut into slices and boil or steam.

Lovely with either a white or cheese sauce poured over them.

I fry mine in butter. They are also fab fried and added to mashed potato and smothered in cheese sauce as an accompaniment to bangers and cauliflower cheese

My mum used to wrap them in slices of ham, smother them in cheese sauce and bake them.

I find this site is good for recipes
http://uktvfood.co.uk/

Something I have tried.

Boil leeks for 20 mins, drain. Wrap each leek in a slice of ham or bacon, place in an ovenproof dish pour over some cheese sauce. Top with breadcrumbs & grated cheese & brown under a preheated grill

thanks hun!

Right, going to combine a few ideas here...

Steaming leeks for 20 mins, wrapping in ham, adding a 'three cheese sauce' (packet I'm afraid) and transferring to baking dish, baking on reasonble heat for 20mins then adding some bread and stilton crumbs to the top, grilling until crispy serving with a crisp salad and a chilled Chablis.

Let you know how I get on.
