Well we had a bit of a shock last night, having cleaned the tropical fish tank out etc we pootled around elsewhere in the house.

When Mrs TVRForever nipped back into the lounge she saw water seeping from the bottom of the cabinet and the carpet was soaked.

Having fixed the broken filter pipe (Eheim Pro filter is in cabinet below tank) it got me thinking - surely there must be water leak detectors around?

The only suitabel one I've found so far is the Aqualert at www.jacarta.co.uk/

Does anybody have any views on this or other products?

We used to makeour own

You need a small piece of sponge a couple of paperclips a battery and a siren

Just wire the lot up clipping the paper clips to the sponge. When the sponge is dry no alarm but once wet it makes the circuit

just get some silicon sealant from an aquatics shop. Don't use bathroom stuff as it has antifungal agents which are poisonous to aquatic life.
