Watched this last night. Top film if you are looking for something to get out of the video shop. 3 hours long, so good for passing the evening. Not for the squeamish, definitely not suitable for children in places and no happy ending, but a good film anyway.

I'll say no more in case you rent it, but well worth a watch

It is, indeed, a moving film and fairly true to Stephen King's book. It's the only film I've seen with Tom Hanks in that I actually sat through. I can't stand him normally.

Great movie - I think it was written by Steven King. Nice to see people get what they deserve - shades of "Shawshand Redemption".

Wonderful, wonderful film, full of morality in a way that sneaks up on you and keeps you entertained at the same time. And so beautifully directed.

Well, Iolaire, if you admire that movie for all those qualities wait until you see Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby - a quiet masterpiece.

I'll look forward to it LA.
Happy New Year to you by the way.
I might be heading for North Carolina in the not too distant future, so I'll keep in touch and let you know what's happening.

When I watched it I didn't even realise it was 3 hours long. I wanted more. I didn't expect the twist at the end, and Michael Clark Duncan is perfect for the part.

Poor Michael Clarke Duncan, got his Oscar for his performance as the accused African-American, John Coffey, in that movie, and ended up in a gorilla suit for the umpteenth remake of Planet of the Apes. That's the acting profession for you; one minute your playing King Lear at Stratford, the next Dame Ugly in a pier panto.

He played the solicitor Hanks goes to see about the original conviction. It's a short scene sat on a porch. Can't say much, people might not have rented it yet
