OK so big milestone, half century approacheth as does our silver wedding.

I had the opportunity to do whatever I wanted for my 50th and like a prat didn't take up the offer and regretted it ever since. Sorry I divert.

Anyway so far rough outline plan is

Fly to Big Apple,
Empire State Building (ref films An Affair to Remember / Sleepless in Seattle)
Statue of Liberty
Let her loose in Tiffanys. (Severe tremors to wallet already noted)

Never been to NY except as transit through JFK and EWR.

So other suggestions welcome peeps.

Wishing to plan well in advance, visit is likely in autumn time give or take.

If you're going in autumn, take a trip to see the trees in New England. All the colours as the leaves change and fall off. It's on my "to do" list.

For transport in NY, I can highly recommend www.cheaplimo.com/ . Have lost all my old emails, but the guy who runs it is absolutely brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble.

May I sggest you contact him with dates and ask for a bit of local knowledge? We hired him for the day to take us around and show us the sights. A helicopter tour is also recommended (not sure if they are still flying post 9/11)
