Miserable bunch of tight-arsed bastards that I work for. No xmas bonus, no gift vouchers, no bottle of booze, f**k-all.

Right that's it, time to find a proper company to work for.

That is pretty poor.

Mind you, I bought each of my staff a bottle of very nice single malt - (about £26 per bottle out of my pocket) and a couple never even said thanks. How rude!

Hmmm, funny - not seen you around here before!

Assuming we do actually work for different companies, mine has refused to provide pocket diaries for giving to our customers as we used to do - all in the interest of saving money.
Bet that impresses the customers after they have spent loadsamoney with us!

It's not as though we're a huge corporation with too many staff: there are 9 of us.
Nor is it as though we haven't made any money: one job I did earlier in the year raked in £70K, of which £40K was, in effect, profit.
Granted, we went to the pub for lunch and the company paid (so offset as a running cost, no doubt ) - all of £15 a head.
Meanwhile the boss lines up his next Mercedes...

Been there, done that, got a better job quickly and pocketed the tax free cash. what industry are you in? I trawled through the job sites like monster and sent off about 5 or 6 apps a day and after you get into the agencies systems, they start ringing you. I was off fo a month in all and that was great as I had a wedding to finish planning and a house move.

Hope it goes well for you.

You should try working in South Africa. Standard practice is to recieve a 13th paycheck, so double at Christmas time!

What you could do is save 1/12th of your paycheck each month and "suprise" yourself at Christmas with your own 13th check. 1/12th isn't too much money a month unless you're living to your limits.

We gave our staff the three days between Christmas and New Year off - paid - not out of their holiday entitlement.

And Christmas cards.

And an early finish on Christmas Eve.

No presents though. Was that mean?

Oh - wedg1e - if you want to be lining up a new Merc (or whatever) why don't you start your own firm? It sounds to me like you have a good enough understanding of your business to do it. Then you'll be the one handing out bonuses. (And will you be more generous????)

Don:
Sounds fair to me!
We had our holidays docked from entitlement. Not only that, but they wanted us to finish yesterday and return on the 4th Jan, thus meaning 4 days out of entitlement. We argued that the Bank Holiday for New Year could be made next Friday instead, and we'll go back on Monday (which will actually mean an easy day since the industries we support will still be asleep!), and with finishing today we only take 2 days out. We finished around 1, so allowing an hour for lunch they 'gave' us 3 hours paid leave.
After 11 years I still only get 20 days hols (+ Bank Holidays), no increment for long service. My g/f is to start a new job in the NHS in January, on 41 days leave (inc. BH).

Run my own business? I can't get my ar5e out of bed now, I'd be out of clients in a month

Edit: if I did, I'd keep my client base small and selective. Then I wouldn't have to run around like a blue-ar5ed fly, nor take on staff, so the bonuses would be all mine
