Friend of mines girlfriend passed her driving test a year ago. She knows what speed cameras are and has a rough idea of what they do.

Anyway she got flashed the other day (35 in a 30 or something ) and after hearing that I know my stuff regarding the technology etc she came to me to ask what to do next.

Told her as its her first offense just to pay the fine and be more careful in future (she hasnt got much money so its not worth her fighting it being her first 3)

She then started talking to me about the technology - this is her view

"I drive a Fiesta so if I do 30MPH then its slower than a big car doing 30MPH. So you can get done doing 25MPH in a big car and I should be able to do 35MPH as my car is smaller and therefore its slower" -

WHAT?!?

Same girl that also said that gatsos can spin round and flash you if you are going the other way...

I am putting this in my list of dumb things along with a group of lorry drivers who believed that by hanging a cd on the front of their cab jams laser guns

Is the UK getting stupider or what?!

Think her blonde highlights might be a little deep..

OTOH, does that mean I can go faster because I have a lighter car than most?

We convinced a mates mum, who was particularly blond, that Spec Savers were now selling Perscription windscreens for the car. The idea being that you wouldn't need to wear glasses when driving.

There's an element of sense in it - she's obviously just having trouble articulating the physics of it.

I'd rather be hit by a smart car at 30mph than a lorry.

I think you might be rather optimistically assuming that she understands Newtonian Physics there Ted...

Don't knock this.

If we can get this lassie together with a bent boffin, develop the idea and present it as evidence to the Commons Transport Select Committee, they just might go along with it.

After all, they swallowed all the guff presented by Brunstrom and the combined efforts of the Green and PC brigades............

Was she not just trying to say a bigger car at the same speed will do more damage? But being a bit thick about the way she put it. The principles are fairly accurate as Ted pointed out.

No she seriously thinks that a big car is faster at 30 NOT the damage. I tried to reason with her on this but the reason I know its speed she is on about is that she firmly believes that you can drive through a gatso, in a 30 zone, in a small car at 40. because its a smaller car its really doing 30....

Forget newtonian principles for the moment, im surprised she can walk on two legs to be honest!!!
