Have just driven past Circular Quay in Sydney, and in dock at the mo is the Sapphire Princess - reckon you'd need a mile of line to fish from the bridge of that one. Its docked next to the Harbour Bridge and dwarfs just about everything around - all the ferries just scuttling around below. Should be a spectacular sight tonight when all is lit up, can't think of too many places where a ship this size can get to the centre of such a large city.

Anyone been on it???

Watched it move out last night, amid fanfare and fireworks.

This is a 120,000t ship (about 50% bigger than QE2, and about 80% of the size of the QM2) that takes 2600 passengers and it was manouevred with such skill in a small harbour, that it was breathtaking.

For reference, imagine the QE2 berthed outside the Houses of Parliament, and then try turning it around in the Thames.

I'm not a big boat fan, and I can't imagine spending more than a night on anything like that before going mad, but the sheer scale of the whole thing is pretty impressive.

Come a long way since the Olympic class were the largest moving man-made objects on the planet (at about 44000 tons).

Have a look at

www.smh.com.au

and click on the photo with fireworks for a better one of the boat in the Quay. And the usual stats lazy journos resort to.

You don't want one of those, you want a proper boat like this one

It's a ship!! NOT a boat.

Ships carry boats.

ship/boat the port (no pun intended) is getting to me.

Standing by the dhow when it was out of water was awe inspiring...

Until the container ship arrived and used it's cranes to lift it into the water.
