Wine Question: Californian. In Flagrante
Discussion
I have been off shopping at one of my favourite Wine Merchants. Got a couple of bottles of Bollinger Grand Annee 97 (hope its as good as the 90 and 95 ) for some special ladies. Its also a very good friend's 50th (he was my best man - very, very good friend and business partner).
So I was in there with quite a few notes to spend on a bottle of something to absolutely knock his socks off. Now he's a New World big wine fan so instead of doing the predictable Latour thing I was nosing around the New World section.
I was thinking a nice bottle of Penfold's Grange or a Henscke Hill Of Grace would be something that he wouldn't buy for himself.
Anyway. I was persuaded by my Merchant, who is well known to me - I have been to many of his tastings - and he's been to our local Wine Society and so forth - we're on first name terms, to purchase my good friend a bottle of very rare, very fine Syrah by a little known Californian Winery. The wine's name being "In Flagrante" - a hoot of a name if ever there was one!
I can't find any tasting notes to go with the wine anywhere on the net. David gave me the full description and on balance I thought it would suit my mate best...but I want to give it to him with some tasting notes.
There are great many cultured and knowledgable individuals in PH-land and I was wondering if anyone had experience of the wine/and/or notes which could be pasted up?
If not I can give him the usual instructions of decant, allow four to five hours to breath in the jug and have it with some serious food - but I'd like more if I can get it.
Can anyone help?

Hey you did well, thanks, Jeremy. I DID Google first but obviously didn't choose the search phrase wisely enough. Brilliant, thank you.
Robert Parker was impressed and awarded ~95 Parker Points to In Flagrante 2000.
You could try signing up for a free trial at www.eRobertParker.com.
The blurb suggests you'll be able to sample up to 15 tasting notes free of charge.
Of the 2000, Parker seems to have said something like this:
"The unnamed 2000 Syrah (a 725-case blend of 86% Syrah, 10% Grenache, and 4% Viognier) is from an assortment of such vineyard sites as White Hawk, Stolpman, Bien Nacido, and Alban. Its saturated blue/black/purple color is accompanied by a stunning perfume of blackberry liqueur intermixed with camphor, licorice, vanilla, and a hint of bacon. Full-bodied, with great intensity, low acidity, and stupendous ripeness as well as richness, it should drink well for 15+ years 94-96"

Great Minds, etc, etc Don...
I just picked up three bottles of this stuff (1985 year, however) for the New Year's Celebration for Mrs ErnestM and myself...

PS: For California, you can never go wrong with Kendall-Jackson. Try to get either the (first choice)STATURE labels or the GRAND RESERVE labels of KJ for the best experience.

It sounds like Don's got a tremendous wine from a very talented wine maker. And he's going to make a present of it. Now that is generous.
(Some more notes which might be relevant here.)
Was out buying some pressie wine myself today. Didn't get anything quite so grand as Don did – stayed in the Old-World for 6 bottles of Troplong Mondot, 1997. It does get quite a good write up though and should be ready to drink about now.
Didn’t realise there was so much about wine online. This internet thing. There won’t be time for anything else soon.

Another super link. Thanks kindly.
Yes it is a present. There again the recipient was best man at my wedding, he has been my business partner for ten years, I'm an "Uncle" to his children and he's been a good and constant friend all that time. A man who is unfailingly generous, like him, deserves a generous token of respect on his fiftieth birthday. Its a special day. Requires a special present.
