Decided to use a day off productively today, and so after getting the last minute christmas shopping out of the way, I decided to de-frost the ice box (that is so big it keeps the fridge door open just long enough to melt itself closed, only to freeze open again).

Now, I'm not always the most patient of men, so.....

I decided to speed up the breeze-block sized bit of ice's demise using an old hairdrier and kitchen knife (I know, I know. A health and safety faux pas...). Anyway, I managed to put the aforementioned kitchenknife through the plastic on the rear wall of the fridge - my question is:

Is there anything behind there that will have an ill effect on The Tip when it get's out?

Don't want to get ill before the festivites hit me......

Merry xmas to you all!

Nah sounds like you got lucky and missed an artery. You would have got an escape of gas. Been there, done that

At uni when it was time to move out of halls we found fridge excessively iced up. After a bit of ice sculpting using your technique with the knives we got out the water pistols and the kettle

People from below us came up - err. 'our ceiling is dripping'

And the end to the story we went downstairs to check out the damage and found they were smoking it up heavily in the kitchen

Another afternoon i should have been working wasted

Is there another way of doing it?

Apparently you're supposed to just swith the fridge off, leave the door open and let things work their own magic.....

The wife (a chef) recommends standing a couple of plans of boiling water in there to speed the process up a touch.

I use that technique. Plus a hairdryer on max. heat (though I work from the outside in to eliminate the risk of death by Darwinism.

God, how bored am I to feel the need to share this information???

I was bored enough to check out your profile - was your 'faceless multinational' a card issuer, by any chance?

Hehe. Done that. Several times! No, a car rental firm.

Edited to say: ahh, a fellow Brightonian! Not in the financial services business yourself are you?

Steam cleaner. Sit in front of it, just sit in front of it, aim the nozzle at the freezer, dont even need to put the thing inside. Feel the icy steam come out of the freezer, roll over you like fog. Feels very refreshing...

Sure am, but not in the big blue box of nightmares! Been there myself, unfortunately.

Now I have my life back, I have time to deal with fridges......
