AFAIK, the VW's essentially the same car as the Porsche - a bit of platform-sharing, badge-engineering going on there!

I assume you're interested in a 4x4 for its off-roading abilities rather than bling-ness?

Neither.

Subaru Forester XT. 2.5 turbo flat four (as seen in American Impreza STi), 0-60 in 5.3 seconds (incinerates both of them), £20,000.

ye i know about the platform shiring thing but porshe tweaked their model for speed.

yes i am more interested in offroad ability, after all a 4x4 doesnt have 4 wheel drive for nothing

In which case, the VW seems to make a better case for itself, then?

FWIW, I've driven none of them and am not in the market for one, so treat my opinions on this subject with caution

The former. How do you know how good both are off road? Have you driven the Range Sport?

i ahve to admit i havnt but have read many reviews and have spoken to people in the know and with the normal rengie that say that is fantastic and with all of its gadgets for offroading and land rover heritage it is highly unlikely to not be good offroad
