I have friends heavily into these things, would seen that the best cars on the planet are made by 'Schumacher' in Northampton. British!

Look for Fusion 21

www.rccarsandtrucks.co.uk/

Antics above are quite good. Ive had odd things from them and prices / service seems fine mail order.

Its also worth having a look on ebay for the cars themselves.

Thanks for that, you seem to be quite "in the know" are the bodies you can get for them a universal fit for all cars?

also when they say a car can do 70mph is this a scaled down speed or actual?

Oh I know nothing !! lol.. there a quite few on here who are well into the hobby and Im sure will be able to advise you better than me.

If the advert says 70mph then it probably does do that .. The Schumachers 21 XTR will do that out of teh box apparently and costs under £300

www.modelsinmotion.co.uk/product.asp?productid=1057&catCode=333&tamiya=268

but Id say 30 - 40 mph is closer to what most will do.
I have an HPI Super Nitro rally and a Traxxas T Maxx both of which are good for around 40 mph and the T Maxx being a monster truck style thing will do it over pretty much any surface.
Most manufactuters make many diferent body styles for each chassis and these are often interchangeable from one manufacturer to another so long as it is the same scale, you just need to drill the mounting holes in diferent places.
Source of good vids.....

I should mention that if you've never had a nitro powered car before then you could be in for a shock.

They are very fast and as such have disc brakes which can be a pain to get to work properly. The servo that controls the throttle, also does the brakes so you have to ensure that it can move off without the brakes binding or not working at all

Also there's no reverse so if you drive into a hedge then you have to go and retrieve it. Annoying if it's the other end of a footy pitch!

Then you've got the fun of getting the engine to start on a cold winters day! Not to mention repairing it when you slam into a pavement at 40mph+

Don't get me wrong, they're fantastic fun when you get them going, but don't expect a simple charge and go model like electric ones.

some do.... The T Maxx for one and I belive the HPI Savage does as well though I may be wrong on that.
On the Maxx the 2 speed gearbox works in reverse too so in theory it should do 40 mph backwards !! Ive never managed it though....

Had two nitro cars. Few little pointers:-

1. Make sure you tape the chrystal thing into the receiver well. I forgot to and that was the end of my first one when it was bananad against a kerb, chrystal having vibrated out 100m before impact.

2. Make sure when you put the servos in that if signal is lost the servo goes to full brake, not full power - see above.

3. Get one with an elecrtic starter. You'll thank me later.

4. Be prepared to have to constantly tinker with the carb. till it's warm.

5. It's mad what you can end up buying. I've seen full data loggers, traction control, abs, hundreds of different exhausts.

6. Be prepared to shell out on new tyres all the time. you'll get through a set, 2wd or 4wd, faster than it takes to say "TVR in the damp"

Have fun
