am going to new zealand in feb for a wedding and am looking at going to either bali or tokyo before meeting chums in hong kong and coming back.

question is which one - Tokyo will be £262 more but will be a great experience. bali will be cheaper and have a nice beach but theres always the worry about security as the foreign office say dont go there at the mo.

has anyone been to either recentely? has bali a nice atmosphere at the mo or is it still a bit dodgy?

any help would be useful as really must book this soon.

Been to Tokyo a few times, anything in particular you want to know about?

Not sure about Tokyo (although it's one place I really want to visit!)... but when I lived in Oz, I know the Australians considered Bali in much the same way we consider Benidorm.

It depends on where you go/stay - but from what I heard, don't expect it to be "a natural paradise"

Well, I've gotta go out now, so I won't be able to answer questions about Tokyo.

Anyway, I have to say that it's my favorite city on earth, so much in fact, that I'm moving there in the summer. I cannot recommened it enough.

Well, I'm back for 10 minutes so I'll type some more

Tokyo is a weird chaotic city and you won't find a 'nice' beach within any local distance, so I'm afraid it's just the city itself that would be the entertainment. I'll hazard a guess and say that you don't speak Japanese, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, most restaurants and all hotels will have english speaking staff.

Anyway, reasons to go are:

Culture clash, seeing the futuristic cityscape intertwined with very old historic buildings is a sight to behold.

Food, some of the tastiest food I've ever eaten comes from Japan... just don't ask what it is, or it'll put you off Eat first, ask later!

The people, they're the nicest bunch of people I've ever met, everyone's polite (if you know what they're saying )

Transport, if you want to hate the british public transport system even more than you do now, visit Tokyo, you'll never even wish you had a car!

Computer games

Temples

Mad people

Mad cars

Shopping (if you're into that kind of thing)

Anyway, my times up, gotta go again.

I'll have to leave the rest of the thread to fellow PHers
