Bang on time.

My sore throat has worried me for over a week now. Will it, won't it develop into full blown misery for Christmas?

Sure as hell, I awoke this morning to the gruff early signs of flemdom and croak city.

The paracetemol are gonna get hammered but is there any sure fire remedy to keep this bug away for Christmas?

Lots and lots of alcohol...you'll forget you ever had a bug, and feel great the whole time.

If that's not an option, takes plenty of those 'max strength' things, they work for me.

I find LOADS of paracetemol combined with fresh Orange Juice and chocolate (Ferro Roche are my choice!) really helps with colds.

Found it by accident when I was unwell and fancied treating myself but thinking about it - the combination of Vitamin C and sugary-energy are probably what help.

I can't comment on, as Mrs Knee suggested, just buying a chocolate orange.

Ahhh, but to take that idea to its full potential, surely Cointreau Liqueur Chocolates are the answer? 3 birds, one stone?

If you want max strength pain relief try this trick that was told me by a pharmacist. Take paracetamol with the usual 4 hour spacing but also take ibuprofen (nurofen, cuprofen etc) on a similar 4 hr spacing but displaced by 2 hrs.

So start with paracetamol, 2 hrs later take ibuprofen, 2 hrs later 2nd dose paracetamol, 2 hrs later 2nd dose ibuprofen and so on.

He says you can do this without overloading the body because paracetamol is broken down by the liver whereas ibuprofen is broken down in the kidneys hence no one system is overloaded but you get twice the pain relief.

I am of course a computer expert not a medical expert so take no responsibility etc etc.......

If your throat is really sore then gargling with Asprin can make it feel better. Honey has some antibacterial qualities, having a teaspoon of it every hour will help to get rid of the germs causing the soreness.

I went through this last week - still have a bit of a cold but the sore throat (the worst bit imo) was killed off in 2 days by doing the following:-

3-4 times daily boil water put salt and tcp (as much as you can stand) in mug with boiled water. Breath fumes from cup until it is cool enough to gargle. Gargle contents of cup (may take 3-4 gargles).

Made my teeth feel numb, people avoided me but sore throat did not last.

Cheers

LOADS of paracetemol

Careful with this. Paracetamol is nasty stuff. It's easy to overdose on it and you don't necessarily realise until your liver is already ed.

Taking paracetamol every 4 hours is ok, as long as you don't exceed the maximum dose of 4 grams. The tablets you can get are usually 500mg (so therefore in 24 hours you can take 8 of them).
Dying of a paracetamol overdose, either intended or accidental, is a really horrible way to go. It's a long, slow, eventually painful death. Just be careful with it, that's all. People seem to be under the impression that paracetamol is 'weak' or 'ineffective' because it can be bought from places like petrol stations, but it's actually very potent and good at what it's meant to do, but if used carelessly it's not good for you.
Otherwise, hope you feel better soon, and Happy Christmas

Sore throat? - Try sucking an ice cube - my Dr. suggested it and it worked for me before the paracetamol kicked in.

Assuming you're expecting the full cold/flu etc, I use 3/4 times normal dose of vitamin C (apparently your body uses that much fighting the cold) and also echinacea - seems to reduce duration and severity considerably.

I work in a bar, and have always found brandy and peppermint a good one, especially for the sore throat.

Isn't it amazing how it always arrives for Christmas?
