Rant Time …

Sometimes I really, really despair. The Bureau Manager here has just dragged one of the girls over the coals for … talking too much. I mean its so sad its laughable … he’s hardly a good advert for hard work and seems to send much of his time doing … well .. knows what to be honest. Actually he seems to have spent most of this year on holiday (we get 25 days - he's had about 35). The only reason this guy is in a position of authority is he’s the MD’s son. No qualifications, no previous management experience. Straight out of University and straight into a job where he’s in charge of around 70 people … in preference to someone who has worked here for 16 years and was in charge before he was put in place.

Don't get me started on the other Supervisors here either ....entirely useless the whole lot of them.

OK I can understand his attitude partially but hey its Christmas for s sake … how about a little bit of leeway? The job she does is so dull that without conversation I think she’d fall asleep. Also I think a quiet word would have been enough ... not dragging her into one of the Meeting Rooms so eveyone knew something was going on.

And breathe ....

My brother got told by his 'manager' (i.e. the area manager's weena son) to hoover the floor because he was the last in one morning, despite the fact that he was still 5 minutes early.

This particular incident was the last straw and my bro' told the 'manager' to shove said hoover up his rectum, walked out, and never went back.

I am the Chairman and I don't agree with nepotism.

Nor does my son, the Chief Executive or my daughter the Finance Director. As for my nephew, the Sales Director, he abhors it in all its forms.

Fair enough. Would you appoint someone because of who they are ignoring the fact that they know nothing?

On several occasions I was told off for helping my co-workers debug their programs! Mind you, when I quit in disgust I got a reference that said "He resigned the day before we were going to sack him", nothing like 20/20 hindsight is there?

Where I work now is exactly like that. Mind you we got the useless son ... the others all got jobs well away from home.

I would have thought going into a meeting room would be a quiet word. Preferabl to doing it in an open office

I can see the advantages for the person concerned. After all he didn't have to go looking for work did he?

Think there'd potentially be a very good case for constructive dismissal here if there are other similar incidents... Would have filed the papers even if I didn't go through with it just to raise the issue at a much, MUCH higher level within the organisation.

In my first job, my manager said that I had to clean the toilets and do the hoovering because they didn't want to pay for a cleaner and I was the only girl there.

And people on this site wonder why I dislike sexism so much!

Ok you are right that bit was fair enough though there are other places that aren't in the same office as the MD ...

Same here, I got my current job whilst I was with the MD's grandaughter. I'm not with her anymore and I get on better with him now.
