...to write a book?

I couldn't get to sleep last night as I had so many things buzzing around my head. By 2am I had a whole novel outlined, complete with plot, themes and even a possible title.

Has anyone ever wanted to write a book, set out to write - nay, even had a book published?

There are published authors on PH, JSG springs to mind, there are also a couple of others.

I've had the urge, even gotten about half way through at one point. But bear in mind the odds of it ever being published are terribly low, unless your famous, very well connected, lucky or its incredibly good (however the latter isn't a guarantee).

If you can write for your own enjoyment, fantastic, go for it.

I've got 4 books that I have started writing but never seem to get round to finishing. It's not just basic stuff either - a few hundred pages.

A book about glue? Sounds rather a sticky subject.

Well I think this would be strictly for me! It would be far FAR too secret and personal to share with anyone else!

Just felt like my brain and heart needed an airing, that's all!

Yep, same here, got to novels that are over a few hundred pages, just never got around to finishing them. Maybe one day...

I know, but there have been 2 problems; 1) time and 2) I get to a certain point then hit a literary wall.

Yes I've actually nearly finished my first book I've written.

Call it a quarter life crises- i work as an accountant and wanted to do something more creative in my spare time.

The odds against it being published are very poor-but I will try and find an agent next year.

Funnily enough I was alot more committed to it in the beginning and worked quite hard on it-but now I find it tough to get motivated-maybe because I fear it will be a failure.

I would love to write a book, its just that I have the English skills of an Welsh call centre worker.

Maybe I could get a Ghost writer when the time comes for my autobiography

Once during the university holidays I didn't go home like everyone else and stayed in our student house. I got mortal drunk one night and woke up the next day with about the first 50 pages of a novel hand written on the floor by the sofa I passed out on!

I don't remember writing any of it. At the front I'd dedicated to my old R.E. teacher from high school. Also (as I was to later find out) I'd rang directory enquiries and found out his home number, called him and sat on the phone for an hour having a discussion about how great a teacher he was and because of it I was dedicating my first novel to him.

We are a lot less creative now than we used to be.

Have you heard of the Proceeds of Crime Act-basically now if an accountant is aware that a client is committing a criminal offence and they do not inform NCIS-and this is later discovered they are put in jail-and by the way tax evasion is a crime.

Perhaps you could call it "The Winged Horse of Chat, How It Failed To Get Me Laid"

truly inspired!

A shame I won't be able to do the same. I wrote a long letter to a boyfriend once, pissed out my skull. Woke up in the morning with a sore head and 23 pages of totally illegible crap.

And I thought it was a solution to all my problems at the time too

Well...of the 50 pages or so, I'd say I easily read about 25, struggled another 20 and gave up altogether on the last 5 it was that illegible.

Is this a Woman thing? When ever something goes wrong in a relationship, women write a bloody letter!

Do any male Ph'ers do this?
