OK, so my neck and back have gone on me AGAIN, must have twisted funny getting out of the car yesterday morning because as soon as I straightened up it felt like I had got a nerve trapped, it was like a pinching pain in my right shoulder. That has now manifested itself into what feels like the top few vertebrae of my neck, it feels really tight and any movement of my neck hurts and pulls down into my shoulders

Now I have been to a chiropractor in the past and he usually just cracks my neck and middle back, but it will still take me a few days to get back to relative normality.

What I would like to know is, is the chiropractor the best option or would I be better with an Osteopath or getting regular massage? I really don't know what would be the best. The problem seems to be getting worse, this is about the 3rd time this year I have had the problem and it always just seems to go on me with the slightest movement.

Maybe try an physio for infra red massge treatment, it does loosen the muscles and aid healing.

Personally I don't trust chiropractors, but do know people that swear by them.

Physio's will also have a heap of excercises for you to do to strengthen the area in question, hence making it less likely to happen again.

prevention is the best cure!.

Bearing in mind the "baby on board" sticker Mrs F is wearing, I'd say go see your GP and get a referral to a physio.

The thing is I have been having this problem way before getting preganant, the back ache I think is in direct relation to the way I hold myself when my neck goes.

LA, I don't tend to get stressed as I have nothing to get stressed about

I know this is not so easy in your "condition" but try working out at a gym , i used to have all sorts of back problems until i started to work out .

I think its to do with the mucles holding you together being in better shape and posibley better posture

me too! have just rang my sports massage person at esporta but she's booked up. my back always goes especially in cold weather and she can fix it in one session so am literally looking for alternative massage places in tunbridge wells at the mo.

which could look dodgy if anyone sees my screen!

totally recommend a sports massage where they pummel you rather than it being relaxing as it sorts it out.

I have had back problems now for a number of years. I went to an osteopath and I did not feel she helped me at all, in fact, all she did was make my bones crack. Then I tried going to a physiotherapist instead and found that to be 100 times better.

That will have to wait until after June noe

Its probably down to sitting down at my computer at work wrong, I will have to rectify that

What I would like opinions on now is who would be best to see about getting it sorted and preventing it happening again.

A nice lingering hot bath in a scented salts of your choice will ease matters. It is very soothing, to the back and the wallet.

That is my plan in a short while

Mrs Fish - your problem sounds like the same thing I get. It usually starts because I tend to lean forward to look at my screen so if you find yourself doing this a lot, try and straighten your back. I also found that tilting my head slowly from side to side sometimes helps too.

Go for a swim Mrs F! Gentle excercise will help keep the joints supple and keep your muscles toned to help you support the extra luggage

Yep, but don't do breaststroke. Very bad for the back and the knees. If you do want to do at least 4-8 lenghts of some sort of crawl stroke, even if it's with a kick board.

I hate swimming, also by the time I get back from work at 6pm I can not be arsed to go out swimming

I will try and rectify the problem to prevent it happening again, at the moment all I want to know is, who are the best people to see when it does go

Mrs F:

Mrs Don used to suffer horribly from back pain. Quite honestly she would weep in the night from it. She started going to an Osteopath - and it became a regular habit - not cheap and not a permanent fix either!

She finally got the problem under control by doing a course in "The Alexander Technique" with a local practitioner recommended by the Osteopath.

The practitioner will look at your posture whilst walking, sitting, standing and so on and try to find what you are doing wrong. They then give you a regime of exercises tailored to you.

After a few months Mrs Don wasn't "cured" but the problem had all but gone away. Occasionally it returns - but she then does her "exercises" for a bit and its fixed again.

The difference between a wife practically crying in pain each night and one who sometimes lies on the floor for a while because her "back's a bit bad today" is quite remarkable.

I heartily recommend looking into seeing a local practitioner.

Having suffered a rather nasty lower back injury playing rugby, I then developed sciatica.

Tried for several years to get it eased, and nothing worked (even a virtual painkiller addiction)

Then I stumbled across reflexology!! It is amazing and I am a regular.

Just thought it might be worth a try
