So all of a sudden theres no lard in the shops, they say its due to european shortage or sumthink. I wonder wot the conspiracy theorists are saying about it? Could it be weightwatch terrorists?

Strange, I did a search on Lard but nothink came up could it be the security services deleting all references to lard on the WWW?

I don't use lard (have enough of my own!), extra virgin olive oil works in most cases, esp if frying.

But it doesn't quite do roast potatoes and parsnips quite the same. I usually use EVOL but bought Lard to do the tatties

I do my roast potatoe's like this :-

Boil for 15mins (takes the starch out), then transfer to foil covered tray with thin layer of vegtable oil in the base and large chuck of butter (oil stops the butter burning). Cook for 45mins in the oven, lovely

this is the 2nd bit of cookery advice I have given today....

the story is here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4012597.stm

roast potatoes:

boil some and then drain them and shake them in the pan (with the lid on) to fluff them up. put them in a baking try with a bit of (hot) olive oil in the bottom and coat them in it, stick em in the oven for a bit

I wonder if human lard could be harvested through Liposuction? A Business venture of the future?

There was a movie about that I believe... bunch of guys nicking fat out of the bins at a liposuction centre and reacting it with sodium hydroxide, so they could sell peoples' fat arses back to them in the form of luxury soap.

yep - it's a problem alright - you can't make a good Yorkshire pudding in frigging olive oil - it burns at too lower temperature.

Mind you, you lot are lucky to even be able to even think of buying lard - can't find it for love nor money over here.

The nearest thing has a mix of vegetable oil in it - for a yorkshire lad like meself it just aint t'same.

I am stockpiling all the world's lard in my lean-to, as we are to be invaded by fuzzy-wuzzies soon, and they will steal it all for chemical weapons.
