A Scottish businessman is donating approximately £7,000,000 to Band aid.
He said "once you have bought a house, car, yacht etc.. it's a struggle to find anything else to spend the money on"
Not exact quote, all from memory you see

Initially i thought "good for him" I don't have that sort of money, so it's difficult to know whether i could/would do the same? I'd like to think so...?

Then i thought..cynic in me Knighthood..!!

Hmmm

Good on him. Shame he didn't just give it to another charity rather then strengthen the case for 'band aid' though, surely the song wasn't so great it prompted him to give away £7 mil though?

Or one of the AIDs or cancer research charities. Band AID recieves a very good level of support already, and charity does begin at home.

Still, kudos to the fella

If it is Tom Hunter?? he's given away about £100 million IIRC.

I knew him when he started. He made £250 million when he sold Sports Division to JJB. He's a petrol head (Ferrari's, Bentley Continental etc..).

He bought a yacht for £12 million.

Who cares what charity he donates to? At least he actually does donate money which is more than can be said of some rich people.

I thought he pledged £1 for every copy of the single sold?
So, if there was any justice in this world, that would be about £42.50 then...

The real judge of someone's character is not how much they give - it's how much they give anonymously!

So long as he does and doesn't go smooching for with some Politician a'la Mark Langford/Bill Clinton for publicity and only make 1 installment payment of £1M leaving the other 5M pledged unpaid. Wnaker.

Edited to say: call me a cynic, but 7M will be the biggest single charitable donation I believe. Has he done this to remain anonymous??

He couldn't give it anonymously. His actual donation is to give a pound for every pound spent on the record and DVD for the last week before Christmas. It was made public in an effort to get more people to buy the record/DVD.

Course he could. A statement saying: "An anonymous benefactor has agreed to give a £ for £ for every record sold".

Yes - he'll get his Knighthood

£7M to feed children in Africa... Who will pay for their food next year - and then if they survive to breed, for their 20 children each?

The very man......

Tom Hunter ex of "Sports Division" fame who sold out to Dave Whelan at JJB.......

Don't think old Tom needs to worry too much as according to newspaper reports he is worth over 500 million.....

Still, nice that he is prepared to give much of his hard earned wealth away, you can't knock anyone for that..............

I knew Tom when he had nothing.

And Mike Ashley.

And Robert Wade Smith.

They are all sitting there saying "I knew Unrepentant when he had nothing". And he still does.

So on that basis we should never give money to charity then?

that is not what band aid is about.

They are helping these people to help themselves with clean water /farming/educational projects too.
