Contact the TUC, tell them your job and your situation; they should be able to recommend one or two possibles.

I'm in MSF section of Amicus.
Being in a union can be very useful when employers misbehave, they tend to moderate somewhat when they find out you're in a union.

In your particular circumstance a union could be invaluable in case of a false accusation.

Really depends what you do. The occupations above sound like it's a good idea to be in one.

On the other hand, I can't even be bothered being a member of the NUS. There was a time when you could use it pretty much as a discount card everywhere. Because people started faking NUS cards, stores either got rid of the discount or made you pay for and use their own cards. Now all they do is get you a quid off on the door at nightclubs, and bombard you with emails about which political party to support, what to write on banners and who to shout at, very little of which I actually agree with.

What he said !!!

I'm in the APE section of Amicus, (Association of Professional Engineers), to my knowledge there are one or 2 members on site, but at present not enough for recognition. Not an issue to me, but my job is essentially a cost reduction team leader, and I have seen people like me 'removed' without any warning.
If that happens I look forward to my industrial tribunal with interest.

Are you a teacher - if you are N.U.T is who I am with, if not erm..... I'm not sure, but you could always give the N.U.T a call and ask them as they may be able to help you.
