After demanding a $1m ransom, I note the hostage takers have released all the hostages. Doubtless they’ll now be tried and banged up for a very long time.

These criminals are so thick. When did you last hear of someone taking hostages in a western country, demanding a ransom, getting the ransom paid and not being caught? It simply never happens.

You have to be a complete and utter fool to think that you have any chance of getting away with it. The stupidity of it beggars belief, and this in itself merits a jail term – aside from the actual crime.

Its a bit of sa catch 22, you have to stupid enough to carry it out in the first place, which means you don't have the brains to do it properly

Perhaps you would prefer to be held hostage by intelligent criminals?

Just the once, American guy hijacked a passenger jet, demanded x million and a parachute, jumped out of plane and neither he nor money seen since.

However a deep hole suddenly appeared nearby when his parachute failed to open, the local sherrff is still baffled

Iraq? Two Italian women? Large amount of money paid by Italian government?

You'll note that I referred to a 'western' country.

I think they just threw it up to him at the open door! Or.. perhaps, he was on the ground when he demanded the ransom? I'm just guessing.

iirc it was a transport plane that was carrying money for the US treasury. There was a rear ramp and he lowered it put on a parachute and jumped out with a lot of money.

Unfortunatly he jumped out while the plane was over the rocky mountains, miles from anywhere. It was cold, snowy and he had no survival gear and neither he nor the money were seen again.

That was untill some ragged, mouldy bills were found in a stream or something and were traced back to the batch he stole.

So the likelyhood is, he didnt get away with it and perished in the mountains.

Don't under estimate him. He may have pulled off the perfect crime. He could have had an accomplice on the ground and scattered a few dollars in various places to look like he was dead. Obviously the never found a body.
