Right. My other halfs mother has offered to babysit the little one as a christmas pressie.

Which means my pressie is that I get to take Ms E away for a night somewhere.

We never get to do this. Never. Sooooo.

A show, good meal and a decent hotel in London?
Or, I was thinking about Paris.

Anyone know if we can get a Eurostar from Ashford?
Anyone know anywhere good to stay? Don't mind spending a few quid, as it's probably the only chance we'll get this year.

I can recommend here:

I've been a member since it opened and it's very, very nice. Fabulous health spa, pool, pampering, and eating.

My in laws live in Alicante, can get an early flight on Saturday and be in Alicante, at thier villa by 10:30am. Flight home departs at 9pm on the Sunday can be home by midnight.

Plenty of time for a nice lunch, walk on the beach and a good meal in the evening. Same again on the Sunday.

No need to go to France and part with your hard earned to those bloody ungrateful cheese eating surrender monkeys.

There'd be fights in here if Ted started charging 3 different prices for the same drink, a comptoir, en salle , a table FFS - What's that all about?

No, you want to go to Preston.
According to the Clarks shoe advert, it's just like Paris

Seville - along with (pre-stag do) Tallinn) - my favourite city in Europe. Great wine, great atmosphere, great tapas - if you can get a weekend rather than a night, go there.

You could do Barcelona - really fantastic place.

You can get early morning Easy Jet flight from Luton and be in Barc. for 11 am , and get late flight back next day. Loads to see and do , excellent food , architecture , art , museums , music .....top place.

If you decide to stay in London you could do a lot worse than Manzi's between Leicester Square and Chinatown.

It is a real unusal little place, well regarded as one of the best fish restaurants in town but the hotel is little known.

I spent a while there and loved it, the location is spot on, the room was nice and bright and the bathroom was great.

I don't know why I like the place so much, you will have to try it to see if you feel the same, having stayed in hotels around London for a year and a half it was probably my favourite, yet I can't put my finger on why, it just has a style to it.

Otherwise have you tried www.lastminute.com ? I have used them almost exclusively for booking hotels and flights for the past few years and have always been happy.

.....but if you are set on Paris, I can recommend the Terminus Hotel (right opposite where you get off the train at Gar du Nord), then a good meal, with entertainment at Moulon Rouge perhaps?

Brussells is also a good one-night weekend destination - easy connection on the Eurostar , fantastic beer, good sights ... done it a few times

You're in the South West - If you've only got one night, spoil her rotten at Babbington House. This is my favourite country hotel bar none.

I know it's not London or Paris, but I can recommend St Davids hotel in Cardiff. It's in the bay with great views and they have a Spa. Bumped into Tom Jones last time I was there!

Ah, but *she's* in the South East.

London does seem to be preferable (less travel time, and not populated by surrender monkeys).

if it is to be london, try www.londontown.com
cheap hotels a plenty. we normally stay in Jurys in South Kensington, nice and cosy and there is a lamboghini garage between the hotel and the tube station last time we paid £125 per night for a double
