Exactly how?

They'll be needing a new lead singer, I'm afraid, God rest his soul...

Paul whatshisname from Free.

Same as the chap who sang at the Channel 4 musical hall of fame and killed two perfectly good songs.

Without Freddie Queen are nothing I am sorry to say...

I withhold judgement. The history of rock is full of "irreplaceable" band members who turn out to be replaceable after all.

Though admittedly Mercury left some pretty big shoes to fill.

Do you know I cried when he died? Of course not - I've never mentioned it before. Not sure whether or not my cat being run over on the same day had anything to do with it. In my head anyway the two are connected events. RIP Jes and Freddie.

I am assuming you didnt see the inaugural C4 Musical Hall Of Fame ceremony?

It was cringeworthy.

Nooooo! Don't do it!!!

It's not needed. Yes, Queen were an excellent group (IMHO obviously!) but Freddie's vocals and songwriting input were unique (In the same way that Brian's guitar sound is so unique).

If they want to add a new lead vocalist to the existing line up, then I feel that they should not keep the Queen name. They wouldn't even need to call themselves Queen II as everyone will soon realise just who they were.

By all means, add a new 'front person' but please, please please don't attempt to re-do any of the existing material. (Is it just me, or do almost all 'cover versions' sound much worse than the originals???)

Personally, I think they should release more solo songs / albums (Fun In Space was great!)

Which band was it that reformed with Shane McGowan from the Pogues as the lead singer and flopped miserably? Was it the Clash?

The tribute concert proved how irreplacable FM was.

I confess I did not. The rest of Queen seem to think the Rodgers move is good though...

Oh well let's wait and see. You're probably right.

I agree that Freddie is irreplacable as the lead, but we all know how good Queen are as a business and its been long enough now for a whole new generation to discover Queen ??

Lets wait and see, I hope for one that it will be succesful but obviously different to the original line up

I lived below Spike Edney for a couple of years. Queen fans will know him as the keyboardist, sometimes known as the fifth member. I rented the flat from a pal who had lived there for a couple of years before moving to Edinburgh. Anyway we shared a garden with Spike and the story goes that, one summer sunday lunchtime, Chris (my pal) wandered into the kitchen to discover what looked for all the world like a poodle in a linen suit (from behind anyway) rooting around in his fridge. It transpired that Brian May was round for a barbecue at his mate Spike's house, and wandered into the wrong kitchen in search of a fresh beer.

Last I heard Spike was playing a band with Fish from Marillion and Tony Hadley. Nice chap though.
