I am absolutly p off with faxes i have spent the last few hours trying to get them blocked.
The scam is usualy please fax this number back if you do not want to recieve faxes anymore so you do and it costs you £3.00 da da small print £1.50 per min however some clever ER sets his computer faxey thingy on the slowest recieve rate posibly and you end up paying the cost min £3.00.
Well you say ignore them but when you get 3/4 per day minimum its a joke and its costing me paper and ink.
I will get to the bottom of this.
Mr angry (steve)....

Yep fps works a treat!

I'm getting a few 'international' calls at the moment which just hang up when I answer. Do you think these are auto diallers checking the number exists?

Unfortunately this is another dark side of offshoring, where the sheer low hourly cost of operation and escaping from the UK regulations means that there are whole hosts of things that were previously uneconomical but are no longer.

The hanging up international calls are likely auto-diallers from a sub-continent callcentre. These ensure 100% (or damn close to it) of an agents time is spent talking to customers. The auto dialler calls and will connect you to someone if they are free within X amount of time (normally about 2-5 seconds), otherwise it just hangs up and calls someone else.

Registered with fps last week and the number of rubbish faxes has decreased a great deal, they reckon it takes 28 days for the service to kick in to full effect too.

Fewer international calls too, though 'Randy' from Wall Street rang me an hour ago selling me lucrative shares.

FPS works well but if they are premium rate numbers report them to ICSTIS at www.icstis.org.uk

I have reported several companies for faxing me with "have yourself taken off our list by faxing back to 09 etc.." and am pleased to say that two of them were prosecuted and fined.
