I don't know the places, but a Google under 'Woburn good food' brings up some possibles.

The Carrington Arms, not far from J14 of the M1 is a very nice pub. I haven't been for a few years, but it was fantastic when I last went.

They do fantastic steaks, a variety of sauces, and a good selection of sea food.
When we went, you were able to choose your lump of steak from the 'butchers counter', likewise for the seafood.

I found these reviews ;

www.mkweb.co.uk/restaurant_reviews/home.asp?BusIDSearch=45&BusIDSearch_comparison=%3D&restaurantname=Carrington%20Arms%20(The)

And stick postcode MK160HB in <a href="http://www.multimap.com"><a href="http://www.multimap.com"><a href="http://www.multimap.com">www.multimap.com</a></a></a> for a map

Carrington Arms used to be owned by the guy who started the concept still running at Fox and Hounds in Riseley as far as I remember, not sure who does it now.
Though I think Carrington Arms is on the pricey side is it?

A mile or two further - but The Green Man at Offley is very well regarded with an extensive menu.

I go there often.

Too often.

The food at the Carrington Arms is excellent - used to take my work team there for special occasions. Steaks and Fish cut to order as I recall..... mmmm. It's pricier than the average pub but very good quality, and close to Junc 13 and 14 of the M1.

There is a similar place at Woburn ( Black Horse ? ) that does Seafood and Steak - haven't been for a while.

I haven't eaten at the Green Man, Offley since it became a "Chef and Brewer" chain pub - but it used to be good anyway.

Still very good - with a very extensive menu. It doesn't do "chain" food.

The Seafood Mixed Grill with Salt and Vinegar dip is particularly good.

I'll have to try it then .

FYI - the Red Lion ( 100 metres down the lane ) - has excellent ale - the food is good homemade stuff - ( but a bit simple / not imaginative - good value scoff if you've been out for a long cycle etc.)

I know it - and have been there a few times. Simple but homely.

"Cycle" you say? Is that another word for "Drive"?

lol.

"Cycle" means mountain bike with the mid-week group - some good loops in the area between Luton and Hitchin , . Offley is a good refuelling stop.

Green Man always used to be one of our favourite meeting places. Food is not too bad although not as good as it used to be IMO. They have an identical menu to the Star in Chalton. Some of their 'fresh' baguettes seem to be pre-wrapped and microwaved.

Red Lion in Milton Bryant (near Woburn) is very nice.

Never tried the Carrington Arms although it sounds like I ought to.

Try using www.5minutesaway.co.uk
Usually pretty good for finding eateries within '5 minutes' (funnily enough!) of a motorway junction - It's good for avoiding the rip-off chav palaces (motorway service stations!)

They still do that at Fox N Hounds,
I think it was part of the concept that you actually see your meat being cut off the joint, did they cook it in full view too?
In the fox they have the griddle in the fireplace in the restaurant so you see your own steak being cooked.
They are always busy needless to say.
