I'm sort of stuck here....haven't been able to renew my passport because I've lost my birth certificate.
This hasn't been a big problem as I haven't needed to go abroad for a few years...so I let things drift.

It's now highly likely that I'll have to go to Bordeaux early in the new year...therefore I need a passport...therefore I need to either find my lost birth certificate...or get a replacement.

How do I go about it?
Any help, greatfully appreaciated

Dead easy. I just had to get a replacement.

Contact the local registrar to where you were born.

They will ask you to send a cheque of (I think it was £6 or similar).

They will send out your copy within a couple of days. Very efficient.

Hope that helps.

Yes - or just call directory enquiries.

Massive thanks Just completed the on-line ordering service.
Only £11.50 and 3 weeks to wait.
Then a quick dash to renew the passport...and I'll be set

Once again many thanks

You too Alexkp ...but Alex's link did the job a lot quicker

Well that's pretty easy - but I don't know why it takes three weeks. Mine took three days - no kidding.

Did you mean to post something ?

I think it got lost in the quotes

Anyway ...very much appreciate the help I've been given
Have made full use of it ....and that stops me having to turn the house inside out for a lost scrap of paper.
I'm sure their 3 week wait...will only be a few days ...they just say that to cover themselves

...my Bordeaux trip is conditional on how many Bordeaux wines I sold last week (since there's more too many people that qualify for the holiday)....but I already got over a major hurdle by scoring 100% in a mystery shopper visit and phone exercise ...which I also get paid a £100 for ...that will pay for the passprt and Birth vertificate fee

I'd start looking in the places you wouldn't expect to find it.
Maybe the back of drawers or in old envelopes of old school reports/certificates

I asked my mum.

Although if she had a copy of yours Condor, I'd be amazed, to be blunt.

Thinks: I've only got a sister....haven't I?

FWD I know it's probably lurking in there somewhere...but to turn my house upside down...including the loft...is too much an undertaking.

A lot easier just to fork out a tenner (OK a little bit more) for a replacement - get the PO to do an enhanced passport check - and I;ll soon be fixed
My prize is paying for it anyway

It's just the bigger part of the prize I need to be 'in order' for
