Sigh....just when they were on the brink of obscuirty too.

I've been avoiding saying they're " FG ST " just to avoid drawing attention to them, and now this happens.
They really are "the Emperors new rock band".
Aye....Linkin Park with breasts....

I've loved them from the start! Found a few of their singles about 6 months before they even released their 1st single.
Agreed, the commercial metal scene with its 3mins 30sec songs (check Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and virtually every song is produced to that lenght!!!)have a certain endeering quality to them.
The problem is old school rockers think its to plastic and most teenagers thing its to 'grungy' which kinda restricts the audience. If you dont try and compare the albums to Led Zep IV its quite a nice break from all the bass infested dance stuff out there.

I liked Evanescence, but then I got Nightwish's CD "Once" ealier in the year.
That is symphonic metal, which is like Evanescence with a massive orchestra and equally impressive production. It is very operatic in parts aswell.
The album has been number one in loads of countries in Europe.
I bought Lacuna Coil's "Comalies" the other month, but is nowhere near as good as Nightwish.
I've listened to Evanescence's "Fallen" so many ties now I virtually know the track listing off the top of my head.

Ah but you see, even though I may be the wrong side of 15 for this kind of stuff, there are other bands labelled with that horrible "nu metal" name that I have some respect for.
Deftones, Biffy Clyro (although more punk than metal), At The Drive In, Mars Volta, System of a Down.....that kind of stuff.
Evanesence just sound....a bit dull, to be honest.
I like my bands with a bit of soul and to play from the heart. Surely not too much to ask...
(I'm being deliberately provocative, but I mean what I say).

Each to there own;
I'm a huge fan of old school rock, Floyd, Zep, Neil Young, The Band etc etc my (guitar)CD collection goes from the early Negro Blues thru to Green Days American Idiot which i got yesterdat, but at times I like to have somehting on that i can just have on as a bit of, i guess, candy floss that you can take or leave, unlike say Neil Young that I cant help but get involved with the characters he creates in his songs.

Sound like a man after my own heart....
I just find I don't get enough time to listen to the really good stuff, to be bothered with throw-away nonsense. Life is too short and all that....
Still, having just witnessed the X Factor, Evanesence seem like the most credible band to have ever walked the earth.

Well stop watching crap on TV and get the vinyl/CD out and enjoy an evening with a glass of your favourite.
You'll soon find time to fit in the candy floss eg when cooking a quick dinner, sorting yourself out after a shower (oh er!) etc etc

Sure, they fill that faux neo-grunge Angst-is-cool gothic teenage niche, but fair play to them for finding an audience.
Marketing aside, I actually really like some of their music. In it I hear old-school elements of Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains, and I really enjoy some of the harder riffs they come up with to some of their tracks.
And it's gotta be said - Amy's voice is great and refreshing.
So, though some peeps (towards the top of this thread) would like nothing better than to pirouette on Evanescence's one-hit-wonder grave, I'm afraid they would do well to remember there is a veritable stable of us real rock fans who also happen to appreciate the merits of their music. Don't like them - ignore them and don't listen to them. Simple.
Roll on the next studio record!

well said, I saw them live and they were so new, nervous until whatever it was clicked and the show just took off, I'm ancient but love music my kids find too heavy which worries me a little, one of the best gigs I've seen. Amy Lee is superb but I guess the lack of output since she fell out with the rest of the band kinda points to where the inspiration lies. Try listening to some of the older stuff, quite interesting, Luna Coil is pants and dull, Nightwish is a bit too hobitty and the singer has no range at all. Cradle of Filth have a new single with a girlie doing some vocals, sounds so much better than that ponce trying to sound menacing. I love seeing women playing hard core good quality rock. Amy, Van Der Maur, girl from Ash etc oops pished and rambling again

Is it just me or does a female vocalist in a metal/punk band sound absolutly spot on, the only example (sadly) that springs to mind is the Red Aunts, a punk bank on the Dutch Epitaph (Europe) Label

Nope, I'm of a similar perversion, 'Fallen' was a complete and perfect album for me but there are a few other bands out there like Kitty......and........?
