I like pretty much any music, as long as it is good.

Consequently I have a massive collection of practically every genre.

For those who like good stuff, whatever it may be, check out KT Tunstall.

She was the little Scottish lass on "Later" with Jools Holland in October, who did one song and instantly blew everyone away. She used a foot-operated recording device and built up a one-woman layer of percussion, backing and rhythm over which she then played her gee-tar and sang the song.

Amazing talent. And only 19 I think.

Her frist album is out monday. I sneaked an advance copy. Its pretty good, and includes the live song she did on "later". Hard to describe her stuff - its much better than the usual female singer songwriter stuff and its all hers.

I predict she will be big. You read it here first.

Google her and you should find some info...

I'm picking up my copy on Monday I had it ordered on Play but it was going to take another week or so, HMV are expecting a copy in on Monday for me now

Another artist of a similar vein to check out is Andrew Bird, he plays the Violin a fair bit but in different styles and builds up large compositions by using the similar looping techniques Weather Systems is a great album, but apparently his previous album, of which the name escapes me, is better to be arguably better

Check out the live track taken from Jools Hollands show - track 12. " The horse and the cherry tree". She's good. Very good. And its all solo with no supporting musicians - just a digital recorder recording each riff/rhythm and then looping it live.

Damn talented.

I'm listening to the album now after getting it from HMV. Very good it is too Not quite what I expected if the truth be told but it's good all the same. I usually prefer voices which have a twang, or something different (but not forced) and as such tend to prefer American/Canadian singers, but this is good!

She's 29 btw, same year as you eh?

Just finished listening to it . A marvellous album that is deserving of the whispers it is getting!

edit:: listening again to Black Horse and The Cherry Tree and it is astounding! It's far better having seen her on Jools Holland, but it's mind blowing that track!

Crikey, I'll have to get hold of this album. She said smth on FriendsReunited about signing with Sony.

I remember her being keen on singing and very good at art. I kinda fancied her when she joined my school too

She's super sexy and super talented. I think i witnessed a room full of men fall in love in a split second that night.

See she's touring again too. Listen up : if you can get tickets to one of the gigs (i think only 3 or 4 nights), do it, she's is 10 times better live than on the CD.

*swoon*

AHHHHHH. Turns out you need to buy a copy of the album from one of 3 record sales places in the town to get a free ticket (it's invitation gigs only).

Currently waiting on EMI/Virgin to call me back to see if I can get a ticket since I have a copy of the album here already. If that fails, I'll buy another

Arg I think I'll be owning two copies of this album then

I doubt HMV will take the copy I bought from them back as I seem to remember they changed their policy on returns & I can't get a ticket for love-nor-money unless I buy another album.

Rang Virgin back and managed to get hold of the name of the person to speak to buy just got an answer machine. I'm currently hoping my message wasn't as bad as I think it was and that he calls me back sometime.

Still, alls not lost - does anyone want to buy an album 1/2 price if I have to get one tommorrow?

Shame.

Somebody buy it from Doc. You'll be doing him and yourself a favour.

Don't do it, you'll just realise you should've married her when you were at school

just called HMV and they said they might take it back and exchange it for something else, but not it would appear for my money or gift-vouchers.

Still, I'd buy a ticket for a tenner so about to call and see if any albums left in the shops in town.

edit:: Thats one of the record shops holding the CD so I can pick it up tommorrow morning now. I'm all excited now

I've just come back from seeing her in a tiny venue, it held about 50 people maximum and whilst I was sitting at the back I was only about 10ft from where she was singing.

I was blown away! She joked on, apologised mid song when she missed a few chords, joked on with the crowd but most importantly sang to her hearts content!

Her voice is extraordinary, the way it goes from a pleasant "popular" style voice to a husky roar when she wants it to, the range is brilliant and is perfectly matched to the songs she has written and sings. The most impressive thing performance wise was her sheer talent at creating a song from only a guitar, a tamborine, her voice and a Akai HeadRush. Building songs up from a beat on the guitar to a tamborine drum to the "kazoo" in her hand and of course the inpromptu voice-sax

She then sat at the table I was sat on my tod and starting signing things, including my 2nd album with a pen I lent her. Must say, she is truly gorgeous in person and seems to want to spend time with the people who have come to see her.

Apparently she is wanting to come back to Newcastle to play a proper gig with her full band. I'm eagerly awaiting her return! I'm with Neil.b here, K T Tunstall is a truly remarkable artist!

Just sorting some pictures out now.

edit:: She's playing at Rough Trade, 16 Neals Yard, Covent Garden, London at 6PM tommorrow night. I urge anyone who likes good music to go along!

Good man! Shame she wasn't with the band, looks like you'll have to see her again

I'm gutted I didn't take my camera

Look forward to the pictures.

And how much better is she live than the CD? It just doesn't capture her spirit - she does seem genuinely surprised to be attracting so much attention. A really endearing characteristic. Such a refreshing antidote to these fame-hungry plebs that seem to dominate the airwaves.

Highlight for me was she played Throw Me A Rope as a second encore. I don't think a singer has ever burned straight through me like that - utterly gobsmacking.

she didn't play an encore for us, but came out and was sitting signing...

I agree with your there mind, she exceeded all expectations that I had from the album by a large margin!

edit:: Added the pictures to my site. They are fairly dodgy as I was taking them without flash with a long shutter speed so were fairly noisy - I've tried to clean them up, but they look a little abstract now. Still, decent enough pictures.

Damn, that was a good hour!
