This thread about school reunions set me to thinking...

How many folk on here have (and will admit to having) used Friends Reunited - to look up what an old girlfriend/boyfriend is up to and where they are now living?

Granted this is more a late night thread really, so it might fall flat and die a death. My excuse is that it feels like late night to me, my having got significantly hammered at an IBM reunion 'do' last night and still suffering for it!

An old flame / friend of mine looked me up on there out of the blue last year. My first girlfriend (used to be!) a friend of my sister and a very good friend of mine until she moved away just before her 17th.

5 years later, she has an ex husband, a small child (not her ex-husband's!) and a very long trail of chaos and mayhem left in her path (at least the chaos and mayhem was predictable, she was never boring!).

Started to make me think of what might have been, but given the circumstances...

Rather freakily, a guy I used to lodge with used FR to look me up. When I first started at Uni I was living in a terrible student house and was really unhappy so this married couple who were good friends of mine offered me their spare room to lodge in. I resisted at first because I think it's a bad idea to live with friends and boy was I right.

After I moved in it quickly became clear that I was expected to provide free babysitting services whenever they wanted me to and when I said I couldn't on occasion they got stroppy with me and made it clear they were doing me a favour by letting me live there. They also used to let their child play in my room with my stuff when I wasn't there. Then the husband started making advances towards me. I said I wasn't interested and that I thought of him as a friend - I was trying to keep things amicable. Next thing I know, he's told his wife that I came on to him and that I had been chasing him for ages. I moved out and didn't speak to them again.

Then a couple of years ago, I got an anonymous email on valentine's day via FR saying that he thought about me a lot and wanted to smell my hair (!). I replied asking who it was and it turned out to be the husband from this couple and he was asking me to get in contact with him again. Needless to say, I didn't.

Yep, FrenchTVR looked me up on FR back in March 2003, and after 18 years we are now happily dating again

Perhaps you should have sent him some with a cover-note saying you have decided to shave it all off so you fit in with your new group of special friends.

That is just WRONG!

That is clearly going to work as an opning line after X years, especially from a man who is older, married and with kids AND who was a dick from the first tiem you met..!

Trouble is, us blokes have a deluded sense of reality when it comes to women!

Send the email to his bitch missus!

Or perhaps you should have forwarded his email to his wife.

(Mind you she's probably his ex-wife by now)

Did you mean 'noticed how the 'cool' kids aren't cool anymore on friends reunited?'

or

'noticed how the 'cool' kids are too cool to be on FR'?

I've never looked at it, mainly cause the people I would actually like to talk with are still my friends. All the 'cool' kids get to pump my gas.

Hmmmn. I did persue the site once. Found out a whole load of stuff about people who'd been at the same school as me to see how it worked.

I then quietly, but carefully deleted all trace of me having been there and haven't looked since.

Those times have gone. They were fine - but I don't want to repeat them.

Never been on the site. I don't know why, I don't have anything against it. Maybe just not got round to it or it doesn't interest me.
I still socialise with a lot of people I went through school with though, a lot of them I was with at junior school.

Grouch.
