Seeing as Christmas Day is not too far away, I thought a bit of good old fashioned childhood noastalgia was called for.

What were your favourite toys when you were kids?

Apart from the usual cuddly teddies etc, were there any specific playthings that you owned that gave you loads of fun and enjoyment?

I was always a sucker for Airfix plastic kits (still am to some extent) and in 1967 became the proud owner of a Scalextric set (with an Austin Healey 3000 and Mercedes 300 SL

Another vote for Scalextric here Make sure you get the jump, it's great!!!

Also check out the Ninco and Fly cars which are better models than the Scalextric ones, and compatible with the track.

The Evil Kinevil (sp) motorbike!! Had it for Christmas when I was about 6 I guess.. It was one of the few toys in those days that actually seemed to do what it said on the box ( unlike 'Flightdeck' which was crap !! ).

Very embarrassingly, I have to admit to not liking Scalextric much as a kid... I much preferred my Hornby trainset...
My brother had a GWR 0-6-0 Pannier Tank Class 2721 and I had an LMS 4-6-2 Princess Coronation Class 'Duchess of Sutherland' loco to start off with...
Dear Lord, I could've ended up a trainspotter!! Though I do admit to having a soft spot for lovely steam locos...

Hornby Dublo "oo" gauge train sets, the proper "super detail" metal ones, not the Triang/Hornby plastic rubbish.....(although the plastic stuff available today is good, even though it is made in China)......

Real metal engines with "Ringfield" motors, made in Binns road, Liverpool.......

My favourite was the "Crepello" Deltic........

Also airfix kits, especially WW2 warplanes........

Meccano

"Bayko" and "Minibrix" house building sets......

What, no Lego?

Shame on you all...

My favourite was the space stuff....there was sooooooo much you could make out of it....i think lego could account for about 2-3 years of my life as a kid...

Oh yeah, matchbox cars. Christ, I had tons of them in a big box. Mates used to pool all the track and we'd start it on the garage roof and down as far as we could into the garden. They must've been doing 40mph when they crossed the finish line!

The best Xmas present I ever had was a Commodore 64.

Then a month later was my birthday and I got a tape2tape stereo....

And spent the next three years pirating games software.

Oh how my parents best intentions were laid waste...

I sold all mine a couple of years back after they'd been rotting in the attic for years. Made an easy £300 - probably about 30 times the price I paid for them.

Favourite toys? I seemed to follow the 'crazes' of the late '80s and early '90s, but lego was fairly constant in there. The space stuff was great, as was the 'pirates' sets with the cannons you could fire at your mates with a certain degree of force

Can't believe Lego when I see it today - it's all electronic, radio-controlled and computer-compatible. Mine had one electric motor with a 'left' and 'right' button. Used to make cars out of Technik with little straight-sixes and the elecrtic motor mid-mounted. Fresh batteries rattled them apart, dying batteries meant it wouldn't move!

Ah, nostalgia. Should I ever have kids, they will get copious quantities of lego, and I will spend a lot of time playing with it myself!

Scalextric for me too. Also had the Race'n'Chase with a RS2000 and a police car that could do handbrake turns - gotta learn certain skills young. Also Hornby APT set (which I've still got, boxed) and a Raleigh Strika - but not with the lethal back-pedal back brake.

Just liked stuff with wheels
