There seems to be a good collective amount of knowledge about these things, so I thought I better ask the question.

Wifie would like a small TV in the kitchen for chrimbo. Nothing big, probably less than 17" (fnar fnar). Looking to have it mounted on the wall somehow too.

She really likes LCD screens, but the kitchen is pretty big with big windows. The ideal location for the TV is near to one of the windows. The room itself isnt that bright (no direct sunlight) but certainly not dark.

Will a cheapo LCD screen be drowned out and a CRT better. Or will a more recent LCD be OK? Not looking to do anything sophisticated, just watch TV and maybe the odd bit of freeview (which is a separate problem that Mr Maplins will sort out for me).

LCD or CRT? What do you think?

I'd have a 15" TFT that folded down from under a cabinet.

So would I, if I had any cabinets of course.... long story but not a normal kitchen.

Should be fine. See if you can get a TFT with Freeview built in .. there are a few around now (my mum just bought a 23" one). She has a TFT tv in the kitchen and picture brightness is probably better than the TV that it replaced.

My dad just bought one for my mum this Christmas. A Sharp 15" job. They're at Richer Sounds for £299. Bargain price and the quality is superb!

No, the Living room, it would'nt fit in the kitchen, and with my cooking style I'm not sure it would last long!
