Finally, after waiting 6 days in anticipation due to dvla having a cr4ppy computer telephone sales system, I have finally got my new plate

My name in full, no doctoring, now have an excuse to go and purchase a new car in march!!

One query can I space it SP 05BON or will that result in the BIB collaring me?

No, you can't - it's illegal, they told you that when buying. Chances of BiB bothering - slim.

Technically it would be illegal to change spacing, font or size of the plate. But it happens rarely (lets face it BiB have much better things to do). Personally dont change it - its a risk and a problem you dont really want. All the police need is an excuse, and running around with a technicall illegal plate is all they need....
